Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Check how the deltoids flex and get bigger (depending on how muscular one is) if the arm is raised. You just drew a straight line thinking that's how the arm looks at that angle (this rhymes with "jimbol krawing")

No leg bent at that angle has that much of a gap between hamstring and calf (her right leg).

The rest is okay but try to use reference next time.

Could you post your drawings that you did from fun with a pencil?

You should fix your inability to draw from your arm.
It's way faster to do studies when you can hit lines in 2 seconds.
>>
>>2735548

I was asking what makes you think I haven't read it so i know what to improve and look out for when i do read it, sorry if i wasn't that clear
>>
>>2735525
You need to do draw-a-box before you read fun with a pencil.

It'll fix everything wrong with your inability to comprehend what's going on.

Also, your line quality is absolutely horrible. I can't tell if that's intentional though.

You need to learn how to draw from your arm before you do anything else:

I don't think I can recommend you anatomy tutorials in good conscience. Your lines are scratchy, and I sense a total lack of form.

You need to get your fundamentals down before you worry about anatomy, which is totally dependent on your fundamentals.

You need to run through draw-a-box. I don't think you're even drawing through your arm.

After you get done with draw-a-box, you need to go do some gesture drawing, but only start that when your form is at a decent place.
>>
>>2735590
Also, here are the teachers you're going to want to use once you finish draw-a-box

Start with Gesture

(I recommend the figure drawing book "FORCE by Mike Mattesi or Vilppu, but I also recommend the first chapter of Michael Hampton's book "Figure invention")

Then read figure drawing for all it's worth

Then learn anatomy with Michael Hampton

Then learn anatomy from George Bridgman
>>
>>2735605
It definitely has creative merits but not enough in the sort of atmosphere that a beginner needs - refinement of technique/understanding of fundamentals. I feel that it could be of value something to be dabbled in once you're above /beg/-tier.

I managed to stop playing videogames 24/7, i managed to stop looking at porn and fapping, i managed to stop watching twitch stream all day. But i just cant stop mindlessly browsing, even though it is pointless.

Not him, but...
Learning to draw is work man, you can't just skip all the fundamentals and expect to be amazing even if you "only want to draw x"
or some other shit.

go to drawabox and do all the lessons and all the homework. Then once you've finished that go through Andrew Loomis fun with a pencil, THEN you should be able to start "specialising" in learning to draw what you want to.
But you never stop studying when you draw, you're constantly finding new books, new peoples works to study, new techniques and mediums to play with, to better express what you want to express.

hue-ston we have a problem. Don't just use a darker value of the color you're shading but also shift their hues to a cooler tone.

Also don't use white as a background color. You want a scene or at least a neutral grey background, else your values will end up too light and the hues too desaturated. You don't want to just use mid-tones. They are boring.

Also take my words with a grain of salt, I never colored anything.

Peter hands course pretty much goes over exactly this topic and some of the exercises he came up with himself are basically what peter han teaches. proportions are way off my friend, the entire body looks like it's been put through a meat grinder. Work on those. As for leather, just use a ref. Find good pictures of leather and do some studies, then you can try to incorporate that into your own sketches.

I see, I will work in that, yeah I got a reference for leather, but honestly, in pencil I got serious problem to do a good effect. thx for the comment, bro.
>>
>>2736790
no problem. For textures, just remember that it's all about patterns + tone. Identify what kind of pattern that leather takes and then try to figure out how light affects it. I just kinda did a quick google search and found this video. It's not that good but it should get the idea across.

actually here's a better example. It's in pen but the general idea is the same. I think Alphonso has a couple videos on the subject.

>>
>>2737203
Been at that point last year. Took me forever to do a lay-in like that just to get frustrated in the end that it's way off anyways. The only advice I have is to keep doing what you are doing and add some more loose sketches and construction lines. The more you do it, the more points you will find naturally to measure and compare from.
>>
>>2737203
two points:

1) I think you could do that face a little thinner, and try to do his factions more delicate, more tiny and basically, keep focused

2) The problem is that you are getting desperated too quick, you have to doing over and over again, just keep drawing dude, you cannot get a realistic human draw with just a few lines, you have to put way more effort and keep it on with the details. Don't worry you are ok, keep it on.

Where do you get your references from? I usually just browse /hr/, but it's kinda shitty if you want some specific thing.

Oof. Right foot it is.

Not the same anon, but he's not exactly wrong.
What do you expect from anyone here? A wall of text explaining all that's wrong with your drawing, and worse, all that would be wrong on your approach to drawing based off on a single drawing?
It would just be too vague for you. The sticky will actually provide you better information on what you need to improve.
>>
>>2737660
That's because there is too much to point out.
You are making a bicycle and ask us how to make it a rocket, you are supposed to try learn a subject first then we can polish it together, not just ask us what would be the equivalent of just dumping an entire loomis book in text format.
TL;DR: read the sticky
>>
Something I always see in these threads are poor representation of ears.
You people need to understand exactly how an average ear looks like. Just google ear and draw a bunch.

You're an artist the minute you decide to make art. It doesn't matter if you suck so bad as to make even stick figures look shitty or if you're Raphael incarnate. So, to do better at drawing would take you to commit yourself to study, get frustrated with results and get back to it.
But that's ok, I'll go ahead and make a little list of things you should pay attention to improve that one particular piece you posted.
>proportions are way off, one arm is bigger that the other and the torso is way too big in relation of the rest of the body
>head is too plain, you need to work on how to make it look 3D
>her left foreshortening isn't working the way you want it, try doing the "coil exercise" for constructing a foreshortened shape
>her left hand also needs serious anatomic fixes
>her right shoulder is too big, as in "man big"
>her hair is also plain and boring to look at, draw the strands as individual shapes with volume
>her legs are too thin in comparison to the rest of thickness of her body
TL;DR: You need to study more shape, figure, volume and perspective.

The hips look disproportionately small; remember to always absorb critiques and write them in the corner of your image, because if you are bad at a specific thing: you can hone in on it and pay special cognizance to a certain feature, musculature or play of light until you're confident that you have the technical and/or compositional skill to resolve that.

The hair is jagged; it looks like a solid object because there is little variation of tone and it looks spiky because it terminates in a point often.

I'd say the eyes are a bit too wide, but you've got a better start than most on them as you're beginning to understand them in 3d space.

Your lines are clean and efficient and I have few qualms about them from what evidence is typically beget in this picture.

I'd say you should move both the nose and the jaw up; furthermore: move the eye-line down; practice studying a skull so you're able to ghost over the image with that of a typical skull, and see if it would not look too quirky if misaligned in that fashion.

It's actually a very strong start and a good occupation you've cultivated out of it, but your problems are not so much mechanical anymore than technical. Study more figures, even if it is only reference images on the internet, preferably from profile or portrait angles so the information is easier to digest and then manipulate, and then maybe draw this again. I have a strange suspicion that you're almost at 3rd Mastery at drawing fictive characters

>"Symbol"

I can draw a circle with two dots and a line in it, and people will know I meant to draw a human face. The two dots and a line aren't actually what a human face looks like, they are just "symbols" to represent the eyes and mouth.
So in the case of your picture, while representing parts of the face more than adequately to distinguish details and build form, it can still be seen that the eyes, eyebrows and mouth do not represent the finer details of how a human face actually looks. Therefore we say you have used symbols to represent features, instead drawing the features as they would appear naturally.

Its a light/shading thing basically, but taken to the most intricate level possible. Your picture simply lacks the intricacy in it's shading to make the image feel alive and real.

I tend to have problems with doing straight lines for my BG's and give off a cartoon Danny Antonucci feel

Do most artists use the linework line tool for their backrounds? Because a lot of artists that I see have impossibly straight backrounds and I just can't seem to emulate that without line cheating
>>
>>2737903
Dude's waist is non-existent. The gesture is weird and the proportions are frightening. As for the muscles themselves, theyre mediocre but passable. Keep trying, compare to reference often and look for deviations.
>>
>>2737905
hmm okay this is where im confused because for the eyes i have the ducts, double eye lid, pupil, iris with the muscle fibers, highlight showing light reflection, exposed part of lower lid, shading of white part to make it 3d, make up etc that seems like most of the eyes forms are there

with the lips i have the m shape and the weird line things that go to your mouth

eyebrow okay i did get a bit lazy so ill finish them.

so given that, am i really symbol 'drawing' or am i just not pushing the details i need to in terms of values?

also anything for the figures anatomy (besides the head area)?
>>
>>2737906
You need to practice freehand lines, might take years to perfect tho. And yes most artist who have made it can draw a perfect straight line.

Can you stop being so fucking hung up about it?

Yeah, everyone symbol draws in the beginning. Deal with it. The more you draw/paint, the more you'll realize how to actually draw what you see. Time (as well as deliberate practice) is one of the very few things that will cure it. You really just sound like the annoying kid in class at this point.

consider doing gesture studies instead, focus on the general forms overall (how does the upper leg fit into the lower leg and the elbows work?), then move to muscular studies as overlays on top of those to improve your understanding as to how they fit together rather than how the muscle looks like underneath the skin.

Need advice/tips here.
I usually draw a lot with 5 heads of height and I'm fine with that, I'm comfortable with my usual cartoon-anime style (I tried to get a hybrid of both because I hate too much anime styles) but whenever I try to draw with a "kind" of more realistic proportion (say 6 heads) my arms and legs end up looking too stiff.
How can I add more flexibility to it?

Pic is my latest warm up sketch at it. I'm slowly trying to evolve from 5 to 6 heads but I'm just not sure yet.

This link is what I'm trying to achieve.

stand up and put your arms to your sides. you'll find your elbows are rouchly at your last rib and your wrists are roughly at your hip joints - it's different for different people ofc.

now look at the art that you like and think about the proportions those artists are using - where are the elbows and the wrists in relation to the rest of the figure?

i would say give some thicker variation on the tentacles themsevles and make sure the girl is soft and smooth - that will emphasise that's she delicate and soft while the beast is stronger and in control. thicker lines are good for foreshortening, making parts seem closer, so I'd say around the edge of the pages where the tentacles come in would really add some depth and lead the eye as well in the compositional sense. generally, next time you're looking at hentai or other erotic ink drawings, look where the artist has decided to taper the ends of their lines and strengthen them. i find it's usually the ends of lines where they taper and in the corners where you wanna add some more information about the form of a body part where they're thickened. the roundness of breasts and butts are calf muscles tend to be thin, and tend to thicken in places where they join other lines - not always, sometimes it's illogical etc. but yeah, keep that in mind.

Wrong board. This is not a fun drawthread. This is /ic/ the most brutal, elitist board on 4chan. If you are here, it can be for one purpose only: to be the very best that you can be; achieved by making terrible art, having it slammed, then producing more terrible art. Until one day you make art that isn't terrible.

Until that day comes, you must slave and suffer under the collective tyranny of /ic/'s critiques.

Try doing a bunch of gesture drawings of just the torso and legs at the desired proportions. Make them run, jump, kick, dance, fall over, stand, climb stairs, sit, fall, anything you can think of. Don't worry about putting in the head or arms or detailed musculature, use basic 3D forms and focus only on making the larger torso and legs work together naturally. Doing all that should help you work out your issues with the new proportions and make you more confident with them. Repeat as often and as long as needed.

I draw random people in my class if they stay still for long enough. It's basically developed into a bad habit, because if they move I then have to finish the drawing from memory, also I am only able to draw if they are looking off-front (not like they are in this drawing) so it may have impeded on my symmetrical ability...
Anyway... this is my first time in here because I've actually been wanting to learn how to draw now. I'm not even sure where to start with this one, it doesn't resemble the photo at all. I want to be able to draw something like what it actually looks like.
