I think I get what you're going for, but it ends up looking very messy.

I think to achieve a better effect you need to have some parts of the portrait more refined, and avoid mixing the paint so much that it turns to mud. It's kind of like how when rendering hair you need to keep yourself under control and not add too much detail where it shouldn't be.

Here's an example of what I mean, the jumbled and smeared features combined with the rest of the painting makes for an eerie mood.

I'm new to oil painting, so I'm just learning how to how to work with it. It's a very interesting medium. It's very fluid. Also it's almost sculptural in a sense. I'm looking forward to learning more about it and mastering it

You should have left the brush work in the chest alone and carried the gestural markings you had from the chest into the facial features. Also feel that the red is too saturated and throws off your piece
