Practicing without reference

Are you going blind for a few days? You always have reference around you. You can draw still lifes, people in coffee shops, buildings around you, your hands, if you have a self portrait then a mirror, you can draw trees outside.

You could practice some face planes or reilly abstraction. That's what I'm doing right now. Basically you just need a cheat sheet with diagrams that you could print out or trace or whatever and then just do a bunch of them.

What kind of illustrations are you practicing for?

If you ever plan to draw from your imagination and not just by rendering references, you should just do your best to apply your skills to imagined characters, scenarios, etc.

A good exercise if you are into cartooning is to make some random shapes/marks on the page and to create a character around them.
