I just painted this, am I on the right track?

Looking at the thumbnail, i liked it.
But the rock looked a little big and not "natural"
Also, you need more details because when i looked at it in normal size it looked boring

Yes you are. Is this from life, a photo, imagination? A nice post-impressionist temperament. You've got the light effect pretty well established with the warms against cools and the drawing isn't too bad. It definitely reads well enough. But as someone else suggested don't be stingy with the paint, and be more frank with your strokes. Keep it up.

I don't think it's good just because it's by Matisse. Honestly I thought it was Andre Derain until I googled it. The handling of light and color is rough, but proficient.

Don't get me wrong, Matisse has painted some shit. I saw La Danse at a museum once and my artdick went limp.
