What Bridgman book is the best one to start out with for anatomy?

none, get better anatomy book.
>>
>>2720594
Can you name a better one?
I tried Steve Peck's book, but there's not enough information about the muscles in there.
>>
>>2720594
>>2720601
I'm not the kind of person that likes to jump through 3 different books to complete 1 muscle.

Bridgman's constructive anatomy looks like it'll get the job done, but I'm not sure yet.

elliot goldfinger or anatomy for sculptors
>>
>>2720605

IIRC his guide to drawing from life just compiles shit from all his other books, the main complaint I've heard is that it's ordered a little oddly. Personally I think it's a pretty competent anatomy book.

"Anatomy for sculptors" by Uldis Zardnis

Unfortuneatly Anatomy has so many books written for it because it's a complex enough subject (when studied in minute detail) to warrant it.

Atlast of Human Anatomy + Anatomy for Sculptors + The Complete Brigeman (which is recommended by Andrew Loomis in "Figure Drawing for All It's Worth"). Yes it's three books, boo hoo, they're all ordered in about the same way (skele -> torso/skull -> appendages - feet/hands) so use them all in conjuction with one another depending on each section. Cross reference shit, google the particulars of something you're curious about, etc.

You're studying anatomy, a medical student goes through hell doing that, and so will you. Sack up.

I won't get jack shit done if I'm hopping from book to book, but I'll try.
>>
>>2720801
For Atlas of Human Anaotmy, Frank Netter's of Stephen Pecks?
>>
>>2720815
Not the one that says for artist on the cover.
>>
>>2720815
Peck. His has been a classic for decades.
>>
>>2720591
The Human Machine definitely. He goes over the form and function of the anatomy in very easy to understand terms. read that a few times so you can understand what everything does.

>I won't get jack shit done if I'm hopping from book to book, but I'll try.
you won't get jack shit without good studies, and good studying will get you thru a lot of books at the same time

life is not like a grinding game, where you grind a book and at the end of it you will know everything in it. And expect to reread those books all your life
>>
>>2720591

No. Loomis' Figure Drawing is a good first book. But it won't help that much. Vilppu/Proko/Hampton's video courses will though.

Would you say it's a good idea to get intimate with each muscle before moving on?

I've made this guide to teach myself anatomy, but would you add anything on top of this to supplement it/change somethings? Should I be doing life studies of muscles on top of this?

All would be good, but the one you posted is both complete and the pages are readable. All the other ones have pages where you can't read shit anymore. They are still a good read for whatever is readable in them.

>>2720641
I didn't find much use for that one. It's not good to learn anatomy and there are much better reference books.
>>
OP here
I've decided to use Elliot Goldfinger's book.

It seems to be the one for me.
Although it's not very wordy, it doesn't force me to dig out all of the information as I try and learn the muscle. I don't have to constantly flip back and forth as I study the shape to see the insertion/origin, etc.

I might check out Bridgman after I'm done with Goldfinger's book. It looks like it's everything I was expecting out of Steven Peck's book. Everything is simplified in the sense that they make all of the bones simple outlines/not intimidating to look at.
>>
>>2720601
these are more reference books than actual teaching you how to draw anatomy, if you want that then look no further than Hamptons course.
>>
>>2720594
whatever you do don't listen to this retard, literally all the best art teachers recommend bridgman because it's so fucking amazing as a a resource for artistic anatomy
>>

>(((Goldfinger)))
Oy vey

OP once again
I was running through gold finger's book, and I've decided i'm having the same issues I've had with Steven Peck's in the sense that it's very bland and lacks volume.

I'm now using it in conjunction with Bridgman's book.

It's an incredible book. I can't believe I even bothered to make this thread. He's the absolute best person to learn from.
>>
>>2724545
Bridgman + Peck is the best combo imo. Also I'm not sure which book of his you are using, but Constructive Anatomy and Human Machine are both great (Human Machine is really sketchy though, so not as clear, but some of the ideas in it are very good). The Complete Guide is complete shit--it's random pieces of all of his books thrown together out of order and was assembled posthumously I believe. Get the individual books because they cover the material properly and in order and in full.

its called hampton
>>
>>2724576
>It's called Hampton

Suck my fucking dick, dude.
Hampton even specifically states in his book that you need to supplement it with shit like Bridgman.

> Would you say it's a good idea to get intimate with each muscle before moving on?

Not the same anon, but I have to say hell no. You can spend a lifetime on one set of muscles. Just move through, do studies, identify what you have problems with and go back to those.

Work, study, and imprpove iteratively not intensely!
