IT'S SHIT.
>>
I think basing your digital art business around people buying your images is fucking retarded and you should have realized piracy was inevitable.

Hell, if his shit is any good, hard copies won't change shit. Scanlation was a thing before this guy even started drawing.
>>
>>2711538
To be praised and glorified.

>>2711539
Also this.
>>
>>2711538
Generally it does not effect your sales. The people who pirate your stuff majority of the time would have never bought anything from you in the first place because either
a) they never heard of you before thus pirate to check out your stuff
b) kids with no money
c) poorfags from 3rd world
d) download things to collect them like baseball cards and will never engage in the content

People who genuinely love the author fall into the category of
a) will buy other goods in future (just on X that they pirated) to support them
b) pirate first then buy later honest abefags
c) buy everything and anything

People who buy the things they like also may fall into the category of just not knowing where they can get it for free. Once they are aware of a place they can get it for free they might fall into the categories above.

---

Piracy also spreads your name. It is free advertisement. An author should feel proud their their works are good enough to be pirated and redistributed across the world.

>The people who pirate your stuff majority of the time would have never bought anything from you in the first place because either
Is there an actual study confirming this, or is it just pirates rationalizing?

I used to think the same thing until I came across things I couldn't pirate (NMA, for instance), and I just paid for them, because I wanted them.
>>
>>2711538
1 I have no idea who this person is
2 seriously this is what hes so butthurt about?
his style is even ripped off, is her paying the artist that came up w that style?, doubt it.
3 why do some people keep bringing up these no name artists, stop turning this place into TMZ
>>
>>2711573
I remember I saw that somewhere as well, but it was eons ago after some big lawsuit over fucking LimeWire.

All I know is that the more DRM you put in something, the more likely it'll be pirated since people don't want to deal with the DRM. So that's def a factor.
>>
>>2711544
Youre right. no one is going to want a hard copy of that garbage

Oh wow, it's fucking nothing.

still better than 98% of /ic/
>>
>>2711573
It's just pirates rationalizing. They say shit like "oh I wouldn't have bought it anyway XD"; the fact is you just can't say that while having advanced knowledge of the shit being readily available for the taking. As >>2711573 says, a person doesn't know what they'll buy or won't buy when they don't have any other reasonable alternative.

>>2711579
The average consumer doesn't even know what the fuck DRM stands for let alone use it as a guiding principal in their purchasing decisions lmoa.

>>2711564

>d) download things to collect them like baseball cards and will never engage in the content

Who cares what, if anything, they do with it? All the more reason these not-gonna-make-its should be helping fund the creation of viable content that they will never be capable of themselves; it's for the best. It doesn't hurt us any to give an artist (or team of artists, for that matter)-whom not only worked hard on a product but on getting to the level in which they were able to produce that product-a few fuckin' dollars here and there.

>The average consumer doesn't even know what the fuck DRM stands for let alone use it as a guiding principal in their purchasing decisions lmoa

Assuming your average consumer, as is implied, generally consumes shit online: Then yeah, most of them know what the fuck a DRM is because they'll have to encounter it. That's like saying some autistic shit along the lines of "Most people who use the internet don't know what a browser is".

Holy shit. You can't just pretend like common knowledge is suddenly obscure, that was the worst argument I've seen in a while.
>>
>>2711616
nope

>>2711657

yup
>>
>>2711660
Im guessing youre op just wanting to get pitty buys
if youre shits not selling, most likely shit
anything worth anything is making money
go cry about your sheckles elsewhere
>>

get better than me
>>
>>2711538
The most heavily pirated things are also extremely successful. Shit like game of thrones and triple a video games make tons of money despite being some of the most pirated things. Things that aren't pirated are garbage. It's a measure of success in a way
>>
>>2711573
>I used to think the same thing until I came across things I couldn't pirate (NMA, for instance), and I just paid for them, because I wanted them.

that's how all piracy starts, some dude search for something, doesn't find a pirated copy so bits the bullet and buy it. Afterwards he torrents it for others to see what is about.

I do torrent a lot, and I don't pay for this shit, but I am a poorfag living in a poor country. And I am planning once I make it to rewatch my favorite movies in theaters (just for the experience, I rewatch movies 5-10 if I like them. First time for the story, second time onwards to analyze shit), buy stuff in the free games I play, and even pay for windows (IF, and that's a big if, they start going back to the experience it was XP), and last but also first and foremost, buy the artbooks I like, since physically having them is better than pdf
>>
>>2711682
>Successful run-of-the-mill shit isn't garbage
>Lesser known too-sophisticated-for-normals content is
Yeah.
>>
>>2711548
This. People are going to share your images for free, it's better to make a product people like enough to want a hard copy
>>
I would be in a debt of ten lifetimes if I had to buy everything I pirate. So yeah, I would have never bought 99% of the shit I pirate.
>>
>>2711538
people get to greedy.
>>
>>2711538
If I can't pirate it, I won't consider buying it. Doesn't matter if it is only $1.

For most stuff I can't gauge the quality before having used it and for teaching material it often has to lie around for some time before it becomes useful or appearant if it is useful or was written by an idiot.

For teaching material I am so happy I was able to avoid so much crap this way. The amount of terrible written shit for a lot of important topics is mind staggering.

And it's way more relaxing than running around and making snap decisions. And how are you gonna buy porn? Jerk off in front of the guy selling it?
