It's time to stop posting.
DAY 5
Days 2 and 3
Still getting used to my brush pen. Fucked up trying to flood the bristles with ink and it dripped all over the left side of my drawing luckily not on the actual drawing itself though. New found appreciation for JungGi Kim.
Inktober Day 6 - Hidden
>>2705514
day 2, noisy. don't know why, just the first thing that came up to mind, but japanese drummer. these guys will shatter a theatre with noise from these drums.

>>2706580
>making a comic?
not for inktober, these are practice panels (some with reference some will be from imagination) so I can improve my comic making skills
I'm so behind, day 5
day 7: lost
>>2706811
I see, that's a good idea, I should do that as well.
This was for day 4
Just got an Ash figure from a friend, so drew him in the bitch pit from Army of Darkness.
>>2706995
man I like this one
>>2705425
Did you use any reference material? tsreally good man
was going to participate then came in this thread and saw all the good shit and lost hope.
>>2707028
Everybody's their own worst critic. Man up and draw shit.

>>2707028

>>2707042
>everyone in here sucks lol kek XD
are you going to come to every inktober thread and say this same shit? fuck off already
I got lazy with some of these and I hate it, but it taught me a lesson about preparation and review before jumping head first into something. Hopefully the next set turns out better. Crits welcome.
>>2707171
Shit I'm sorry about the file size.
>>2707171

>>2707042
come on man I have no ink, actually I think i do, but I don't have the tools to use it. I'm only using brush/pen tool though.
>>2707349
Dude. It's called a ballpoint pen or a sharpie don't need no fancy tools
>>2706673
Thank you for noticing my work, anon. I really appreciate it. :)
>>2707018
All I did was Google "chinese dragon" and saw all the ancient illustrations of the fantasy creature. I guess I also looked at photos of real life lizards and animals to understand how scales would act around joints and other parts of the body. But the dragon you see here is basically all from my imagination, inspired by ancient illustrations.
here's my late day 6
my over ambitious messily ink'd day 7 - Lost

Day 8: Hunter S. Thompson. I have no time to draw today so I forced myself to put out something quick and easy. I'm not too happy about it. Hunter's head is too small and there are other areas I could have drawn better. Don't wake up at 1PM and give yourself only a couple hours to draw before work.

I guess I misinterpreted.
We're a quarter of the way there, keep it up all.

Day 7 - i had some trouble coloring the big chicken, i kinda 'winged it' on his belly...
>chicks with dicks
>baby dick vs big cock
>cocky cock
>don't get too cocky
>don't get bukakke
i thought adding semen would make it too graphic
>>2708759
>i thought adding semen would make it too graphic
As if the giant fucking penis didn't already.
Might as well go all the way, anon. Would probably make it look better.
Day 8 -
No real theme just drawing lmao
>>2708759
Day 8 - cheat day, went to figure drawing class with a buddy. The model poses were really hard for me, plus it was an old fat dude who kept cramping during the 20min. We also showed up late and had to stand to draw...
>>2708765
ah too late... maybe ill drip some semen off the caption. Also, i discovered that not everyone knows what bukkake is, so for these few sheltered individuals, it will just be a weird chicken joke
sorry about the recent penis obsession. I guess i've had penises on the brain the past few days.
>>2706839
Love your stuff
>>2706838
Those hands give me nightmares, what did u use to color?
>>2707325
Excellent penwork
>>2707444
Did you go fine liners? I pretty much gave up on brush pen. I couldn't control it and the lines got super fat - I think I need a thinner brush
>>2708095
More? Day 8?
>>2708136
Why are they half black?
>>2708455
I guess you really like cats... Are these all your cats?
>>2708468
Crying ink must be painful
>>2708449
Day 9: Witch. Much more happy with this portrait. The model is a young woman I have been talking to for the past month. It's her birthday tomorrow and she loves Halloween so I knew I had to draw her as a witch. Couldn't stop myself from adding some digital shading, it really helped the image come to life. Call me a cheater, I really don't care. I know she will love it like this and that's all that matters to me with this entry.
>>2708783
Impressive, but you really should focus on designing your shapes better. Asymmetry is better for leading the eye through organic forms.
Also, you don't get two muscles bulging opposite each other, they work in pairs.
Who here getting worse?
While I've been inking everyday and producing more quantity, quality has certainly dropped and I'm getting lazier/rushing work more
>>2708909
I feel that, but I've found ways to keep the quality up. One thing I'll do is start on a multiple drawings on the weekend, which gives me a head start if I cant commit as much time during the work week. Another thing you can do is just keep the size down. I draw within a 6x6 box and even then only fill about half of it.
Today's going to be annoying as its Canadian Thanksgiving.
>>2708909
Either your getting better and seeing more errors or your just rushing more as the month goes on. Just gotta relax and have fun with it.
>>2708792
people already gave you some critique and accolades, I was attempting to share the attention to the other anons.
I dig your inks regardless - keep pushing the dynamic range (larger sections of darkness and lightness)
>>2709042
Thanks, anon. I welcome as much critique as I can get. I like what I draw for the most part, but I always want to be improving. Good on you for giving attention to the folks in this thread who haven't had their works commented on yet.
Rushed mine out today, since Im going to be out all day today.

>>2709795

>>2709838
Day 11: Shin Gojira. I'm seeing the movie later today, couldn't be more excited. This drawing really evolved from beginning to end. The smoke doesn't exactly make sense and the background was a wild animal that proved difficult to tame. I learned a lot about using ink as a medium and this lesson will be sure to improve my art in the near future. I hope you guys don't mind the bigger image size, it seemed better to keep it at a larger size in order to really examine it in detail. Too small and it would've started to look mushy.
no. 10
>>2711080
how did you get to this level of skill?
>>2711118
by drawing a lot
DUUUHHHHHHH!
>>2711121
well yeah, uh great good work
>>2711137
That's not me
>>2711118
You'll basically never get a clear answer to that question, trust me, I used to ask everybody non stop when I was starting out. I used to spend infinitely more time asking questions & downloading tutorials than I ever did actually productively working. It's not just how many hours you put it, it's how well you use those hours. Even took almost a full year out from working at one point, just made sure I was always observing and trying to build an eye.
I hardly ever draw or do linework so this month has been a mad struggle so far. Push yourself out of your comfort zone & get interests outside of art so your mind doesn't just become an echo chamber repeating the same mistakes. That's all I really can say, i'm still a long way from where I want to be
day 11
>>2711296

I missed everything so far. Day 12 is my day 1. I might as well just die...
>>2711950
We all might as well just die, anon. It's going to happen to all of us eventually, why wait? Don't worry about missing the first 11 days. Just draw something every day for the next 20 and have fun with it!
not done to any inktober prompt, but it is october and this is ink- a little sketch where I tried to figure out how my new brush pens work

Day 13
>>2708783
Day 9-12? I am going to claim that I just did 4 inktobers in one shot.
Got some new, heavier paper and tried to inkwash, but my brush is a 1/2" brush so I have no granularity or control... 9 and 10 came out terrible so I made them my test subjects
Any washing tips are welcome. I also have this shitty noodler ink which looks like a light gray more than black...
i'm having trouble keep count of how many are participating...

>tfw critique-senpai didn't notice me
>>2712947
Which drawing is yours, anon? I can critique for what it's worth.
>>2711949
Day 13: Quorra. Took a look at KR0NPR1NZ's art for the first time in ages for no particular reason and felt the need to draw a cute girl. I love the visual aesthetic of TRON, and I'm sure the rest of /ic/ does as well. This was going to be a simple black and white image, with her clothes being all black and her skin being white. The signature "TRON lines" on her clothing would also be white. But as I studied her suit and all the subtle intricacies of its details, I felt the need to color it. Yes, this is digital color. Sue me. It looks much better this way and I'm happy with how it turned out, especially when it only took me a little over 30 minutes to complete.
Does anyone else get the feeling that a lot of us have given up on Inktober? I'm seeing a lot fewer daily posts.
>>2713438
It's pretty standard, momentum flags after a week or two, and people who break their streak go "fuck it" and don't bother keeping up anymore.
I've been doing it every day but I'm sort of wavering too. It's not even the daily drawing that's the problem, I've drawn every day (or just about) for months, but I get bored of sticking to one medium.
>>2713438
Of course, it's to be expected really. It's kind of better in some ways because you get a smaller group that starts to support itself. looking through this thread is nice because there is so few toxic shitposters.
>>2713011
digital aside, i think the eyes are really holding this piece back
>>2713474
What's wrong with the eyes? How can I improve them?
day 13: scared
>>2713011
the face looks quite off anon, i'd take a look at the eyes and nose again
flip your canvas if necessary
neck down looks pretty alright though, if a little flat.
>>2713551
When you say it looks "quite off" I can't help but feel you're exaggerating. I see the nose is a bit long and it sort of droops down a little low. You and this anon >>2713474 mentioned that the eyes could be better but neither of you have actually told me what is wrong about them. I don't really see anything glaringly bad concerning the eyes. I just want to improve like the rest of you.
>>2713566
how is "quite off" an exaggeration?
anyways here. There was just too much eye white in the left eye compared to the right. Also the bottom lashes should be smaller than the top lashes unless it's a fashion/makeup choice. I also moved her mouth slightly and made her eyebrow a bit more natural looking by lengthening it.
>>2713660
Okay, see, this is the kind of feedback that is actually hugely beneficial and worth listening to. Thank you kindly, anon. The lashed were indeed more of a fashion decision, that's how they looked in the reference pic I was using. But everything else you've changed is valid and I have to say you made her cuter as a result. My thanks again.
This is what I meant by "quite off" being an exaggeration. "Quite off" implies that there is a lot wrong with it, yet all you did was change a few elements ever so slightly. It's not like I drew her as Picasso would, something like that would indeed be so "off" that I would need to reevaluate my skill as an artist entirely. That would be "quite off." But it's a matter of semantics, I suppose. On this face that I've drawn, there are four elements: the eyebrows, the eyes, the nose, and the mouth. You changed three out of four of them. In that sense, you could argue that there is a lot wrong with the face since you changed and improved 75% of it.
Not trying to argue at all, I'm genuinely grateful for you taking the time out of your day to clarify and even edit my picture. Just trying to clarify my own thoughts and words as you have done for me.
>>2712717
fucked up the face :(
Just got a chance to scan this -
Witch 10/11: Solar
>>2713673
I'm a different anon, and imo it really did look "quite off." It's mostly since the lines you used to draw your lower lashes were the exact same weight as everything else and made them look really unnatural, like she had a black eye or something. The other anon was completely correct. Nose should be tilting up a little more, too, instead of the tip pointing downwards on her face. Try experimenting with line weight. Your knowledge of form is okay in this, but all the lines are so uniform that it just looks like cartoon pixel art.
Have you read loomis and all that?
>>2713809
Line weight is a concept I'm still learning. I understand it of course, but I pretty much never actively focus on it while inking. I try to get the "perfect line" so much that I press down a little harder on the pen making all of my lines look that way. I agreed about the nose before. I have read Loomis and other books/artists, though it has been a while since I last read through any of those books. I would be happy to reread them and study the basics once again.
>>2712894
day 13
>>2712928
thanks critique anon, I feel a bit better about this one.
>>2713011
Day 14: Gluttony Demon. Decided to experiment. I usually draw a very rough pencil sketch and ink over it, adding in all the details and everything. That initial pencil sketch is the blueprint; the plan that I have in my head all laid out ahead of time. This drawing was done without any pencil work whatsoever. I had this image in my head of a scary face, so I just went straight to drawing it in ink. From there, whatever happened, happened. As I worked from the head to the neck, it became clear that this would become some kind of chubby demon. Perhaps a man who ate himself to death and was sent to Hell for his gluttony. He couldn't be a functioning member of Hell's society with so much fat on his body, so Lucifer replaced most of his body with some otherworldly body parts to keep him mobile to some extent. Without a proper torso, the weight of this demon's fat head and arm constantly weigh down on his organs, barely being sustained by the artificial body he received. Thus, he is forever reminded of his punishment.
Who /NOFAPINKTOBER/ here too?
>>2713928
>tfw nofap has no effect on me because I can cum with no hands
>not precum, but full load
I'm exhausted and am seriously on the verge of quiting..
I can either full on stop the misery, or finish the last few sketches then call it quits. or suck it up and JUSTDOIT.gif because we're halfway there
I know option 3 is the least regrettable option, but it's just so goddamn hard for someone who has no discipline.
>>2712920
Is the type of paper you're using good for wet media?Just because a paper is thick and high quality doesn't mean it deals well with water.
Asking because your greys look kind of smeary, like you were trying to paint on marker paper or something like that.
Other than that... a lot of people premix several different concentrations of ink to water in a palette, that way they already have a variety of values ready when they start laying in washes.
>>2714039
You can do it, anon! The halfway point is always the toughest because you've been at it for long enough to be exhausted, but you aren't getting the "close to the finish line" bonus motivation yet.
At the very least, stick with it a few more days. It'll get easier again.

>>2706408
There's something about your art style that just comes off as refreshing, I love it!
>>2713914
Day 15: Monika Wolf. This is actually a girl I follow on Instagram who said I could draw her. I was going to do something more elaborate with color and digital brushes and whatever, but I figured her fashion sense lends herself well to a black and white look, so I decided to just draw an ink illustration and kill two birds with one stone. I draw someone who's been waiting on me to draw them, plus I check off another Inktober submission. Debating on doing this a few more times since there's five other people I still need to draw. Been holding off on their pictures for Inktober; again, I wanted to do something more elaborate for each one of them but now I'm not so sure.
>>2714664
Oh, and I'm not exactly proud of her face by any means. Should I fix it up a bit in Photoshop or is that definitely cheating?

>good for wet media
no, its shit and warps like a mother fucker. Definitely made for markers and not water...
>your greys look kind of smeary
i was using a giant brush and one of those plastic crayola ones with the toothbrush bristles, I have some new brushes that I am about to try

I think you're using too many brush strokes sempai. Have you tried wet on wet techniques? spreading a large area of water, then applying pigment that spreads naturally across the liquid? This way you can encourage your darker pigment into your desired shadows, and mop up the water with paper towel to create highlights. Sorry if this is old news for you.
>>2715700
i didn't even try to make it symmetric since i knew i would fail. I also added a bunch of rando lines to cover up potential ink glitches
>>2715717
>wet on wet techniques
i literally know nothing about how to use a brush. Any tips or search terms are greatly appreciated. I am in trial and error mode now. What kind of paper / brush are you using?
>>2715753
Not him but when it comes to wet on wet watercolor paper is most favorable, because it gives you plenty of time in between when you lay the water down and when it dries into the paper, and it's thick enough that it doesn't fall apart when wet.
Still even on normal paper - the thicker the better though - it should work as long as you're careful not to drench it. Take a brush, dip it in water, and draw it across the paper. Then apply ink along part of it, and you'll see it seep into the rest of where you applied the water more gradually and smoothly.
>>2715753
Oh and also if you get the chance to pick up a water brush pen I find them super handy for ink washes (and watercolors).
If you take one and put a mix of ink and water in it you can get a pretty steady flow of the same value, and the reservoir keeps the brush tip moist so you don't get that dry brush look unless you go really fast.
how many people are left in this thread?
>>2715788
Probably like five of us. I'm actually trying to draw Hellboy right now. Having a lot of trouble with the pose I had in mind so now I'm switching to something more simple.
Someone posted some awesome inktober pieces with vehicles done by a professional artist in another thread but I can't find them now. Anyone know who I'm thinking of?

Day 15 - more studies. I need a speed boost, I think my brush is too small. I'm constantly dipping it.
>>2715760
>>2715765
cool - I did this one on some mixed media / water color paper that I found. I'll try out the wet technique in a bit. I'm always looking to buy more tools.

Not really lol
Resize ur shit, homie
>>2716447
Resize and flip your canvas.
Anyway the lines are a bit wobbly and flat. I recommend varying your lineweight a bit more to make it less static.

Day 16 - went to figure drawing class. I could blame the model for constantly moving, but I blame myself for losing sight of the anatomy and proportions.
A laughable effort

For those quick two minutes sketches, the model is supposed to keep changing poses. You as the artist are meant to take that time and focus on the model's gesture rather than illustrating the pose as it is. What you've done here isn't necessarily bad, but you may have missed the point. I don't know enough about your class to tell you one way or the other. I used to attend a figure drawing class as well, but it was always 30-second gesture drawings with many different poses and then a solid hour of one single pose that we could all go crazy with.
Anyway, keep attending your class. You'll develop your eyes a lot more. You won't have to focus on individual details after a while; you'll see the whole model as they are and illustrate that. This will also increase your short term memory to where you only have to look up at the model once or twice to capture their gesture.
Regardless, I actually like some of your 2 minute sketches. If you can do those in 2 minutes or less, you're already on your way to where you want to be.

thanks for the crit - I was thinking of trying a fat marker for the 2 min, I can't lay down ink fast enough with the micron
I was being a spoiled brat about her 5-10 min poses, she was slowly rotating her shoulders and arms so I started to get a lot of ghosting (both 5's on the left), gotta be faster I guess.
>look up at the model once or twice to capture their gesture
I've also heard that you are supposed to avoid looking at your paper and just draw while staring at the model, but I think this works better when drawing on an easel.
FYI we do 10-2s, 4-5s, 2-10s, 3-20s, there is no instruction, you just show up and draw

>What kind of paper / brush are you using?
I use a soft synthetic brush, a 4 round for fills and washes and then a 2 round for tighter areas. As for paper, I use a sketchbook of heavy mixed media paper, but it still warps slightly. If you want to avoid warping completely when using heavy washes, you have to stretch your paper beforehand, just google "stretching watercolor paper" if you're interested in that. As far as trying out wet-on-wet brush techniques, I recommend just messing around on a test sheet, dump a bunch of water on there and ink it, see what happens, experiment. Most of the stuff I learned was completely by accident. Also, ink fast, and give up control to some extent. I hope that helps senpai
