There's sooo many ripoffs of him, but that's always been the case. There's plenty of guys who rip off Jaime, Mullins, Sparth, Rapoza, basically any famous artist, and you had the same in the past where people copied Frazetta and Syd Mead. Even further back you get guys who ripped off Sargent, and further back you got guys who copied Caravaggio. It's human nature to try to follow in the footsteps of someone who is a hero to you. Most grow out of it in a decade or two though.

>>2705162
they're not rip offs, maybe some are, but let me point out that people can naturally have similar styles too.
>>2705217
Sure it's possible to independently develop similar styles, but the difference between that and someone copying/imitating another style is really obvious. Some artists leave a strong imprint on others when they are an influence. Like it's easy to pick out who looks at Phil Hale a lot for example.

no seriously, why even live? I'm 24 and realizing that even if I pull together the money to go to an atelier A. they're not as good as they used to be B. There's no market so I won't be able to support myself/dedicate all my time to painting. There is no course of events where I will ever be that good.
>>2706845
>There's no market so I won't be able to support myself/dedicate all my time to painting
That's probably true for some academic painting especially genre pictures, but something like landscapes still sell well today. It's a pretty universal subject and is always relevant and will always have a market for it if it is well done.

>>2712572
It is a photo. Anon was just making a snide comment about how Monsted's work is too literal and basically the same as looking at a photo. I guess you proved his point.
>>2700237
I do, but right now it's all over the place. My inspiration pictures range from weird anime looking stuff, to classical paintings, to Flight Rising recolors. I just save things that have pallets I like or are compositionally interesting, so it's in real need of being cleaned out.
>>2700237

>>2708207
>Not posting his best painting.
>>2715632
>random side view
He has way better work than that
>>2715642
Yes it could easily have taken months. For complex historical paintings with many figures it may even have taken years once you count all the time spent doing research and preparatory drawings and sketches. I don't think that landscape would have taken that long though, he probably did a few colour sketches and drawings on location and finished it up in his studio later, but it would require less time than something with architecture and many models needing to pose and get in costume and stuff.

The problem is you don't have the full resolution. It's more obvious that they're paintings when you see them in person.
Hey guys I'm looking for this one painting by a russian guy, it has an old orthodox christian man with a hood, he's holding a bucket and resting on a branch, it's older but it almost has that ruan jia low saturation painting style.

I'm like 90% sure this is the painting you're talking about, though it's not that low saturation and the guy who painted it actually just died like a couple years ago and was pretty young so it's not some old master painting.

Are quite honestly the 3 most mimicked artists by kids in art schools. Ringling, Savannah, Art Center, Sheridan, those illustration/animation schools.
They are all around 28-34 years old.
>>2722962
Could be worse when it comes to artists to mimic
>>2723030
I mean yea, those guys are amazing but they are so very distinct that the best you can hope for is to be an obvious knockoff.
>>2725032
I don't think it's a big deal if it's young students still in school. Being some other artist's copycat tends to get old pretty quickly if they're inquisitive enough as individuals and have basic self awareness.
