I did it in college and in high school, with different girls. Each time it was with someone I knew where there was some mutual attraction but we hadn't been on any dates yet. In high school I went on a couple dates with her but it didn't work out. In college I ended up later dating that girl for nearly a year or something. One was a gift of a moleskine for her birthday as she liked to draw, and I filled the opening pages with some drawings of sea creatures and fish for her since she loved ocean life. The other was a digital painting that I animated and gave for Christmas.

Yep. It was a birthday card in watercolor. He treasures it. We're still together nearly 2 years later.

I drew pictures with her, for her.
We used to paint together.
She drew me, i drew her.
When we used to be burnt out, the other would encourage drawing.
She was so pretty, i felt ugly drawing her, and no drawing was ever good enough, when your subject matter is already pretty much perfect, your kinda setting yourself up for failure anyway, she always loved my drawings.
I painted her a rose once, yea its cheesy and stupid, but god dam i put hours into that fucking rose.
it only consisted of 7 strokes on a solid black background, but every brush stroke was thought out hours in advance, had to make everything perfect.
when i gave it to her she showed her father who was a pro oils painter and he said that he had never seen such well thought simplistic strokes before for someone my age.
She kept it on her table for the whole year after.

I hope she still has it.

for friends in elementary school, but once you hit middle school drawing becomes less cool, so i drew for my deviantart/tumblr friends.

When I was in high school I used to draw for a lot of my friends but I was too embarrassed to show any guys I liked because I drew animu.

But now that i'm an adult the only person i've given art to has been my fiance (before we were engaged). I gave him a painting I did of him while we were drawing and I've drawn trippy art for him. Recently I edited a picture of him that looked cool (He makes great expressions. I keep asking him if i can just take a series of photos of him for expression reference. When I finally get around to it i'll share it here if i get interest because he's very expressive and even if you want a milder expression, imo hes great to study because it's easier to tone down an expression imo than it is to make it wilder without reference.

Anyway...

It's worked out in my experience. I've only had one person rip up a drawing of mine (It was just a doodle at work but they didn't get why I found it rude. "You could've thrown it out like..in the back room instead of right in front of me though." It's not like i expected them to cherish it forever or even until they got home but damn i didn't think they'd throw it out two seconds later.

I do paintings for my parents and my sister sometimes, for birthdays and such, if that counts... No boyfriend of mine ever really appriciated getting art or elaborate paintings from me because they were simple minded assholes that would rather have me draw loli porn for them (i'm sure loli could be considered art, it just wasn't at all what i wanted to be appreciated for).

First girl to two ever draw me did pic related. Out of nowhere she painted me a birthday painting in 2009 which was the first time anyone had ever ever made me anything. I was with another girl at the time (who gave me nothing for my birthday that year) but we broke up up.

She lived in Russia though and we drifted after a couple years. Shes still a great artist. It would be another 5 years till anyone drew crew me anything.
