They're tools, but if you want to spend 10 years practicing geometric perfection just to get a cool effect in an ultimately lifeless drawing just get a truckload of patience.

And tracing paper.

I'd start with light pencil,trace around a plate,then work the basic face on the bottom. Use ytracing paper,copy the image,transfer it to the top,then the sides. Then turn the canvas so the corners are at the top and bottom,then repeat. Then when you have a general idea of the placement of the figures,make the lines more substantial. Then you do the same for the eyes in the center,in a rough cone.

It's the way I would approach this,and I'm sure there are better ways,but that is my 2 cent lowtech solution...
