yes sort of for now, the style helps to attract a bit of a fanbase for now but plan to merge a more textured grit style with less smooth rendering to it over time, A sort of rapoza sakimi fusion although it will chew more into time contraints doing it.

Fucking amazing stuff. You clearly understand the form and motion of anatomy, but it looks like you don't spend a whole lot of time on your non-animated drawings. I'd imagine you're just used to drawing your frames quickly and you get bored when nothing's moving.

It is immediately clear to me what your issue is:

You have no single, consistent style. You're showing a myriad of different work that looks like it could have been done by different people. If you want to be more successful in illustration, you HAVE to zero in on cohesive style.

It looks like you have interest in drawing things other than fantasy/sci-fi/concept art nonsense (typical /ic/ stuff). That is absolutely great - there are way more opportunities in other subjects of illustration, and you can make more money more easily (still very hard, of course).

That being said, I can tell you have more of an interest in digital painting than the other styles. While fun to do, it's very hard to sell that style to a wide range of people.

It looks like you do have work though that is very marketable: Green Girl & the Football Spot Illustration. In my opinion, you should push this type of work. I think you'll have an easier time getting work if you build a portfolio focused more around this style rather than your digital painting work.

My guess was that clients wanted to see some breadth in portfolio, since most illustrators have a single very monotone style (which is boring imo).
I guess i'll start narrowing down atleast and try to keep things more consistent between every work. However i don't think that i could ever go 100% with the "plastic" like feel that vector images illustrator gives.
Painting is just so much more fun.

This is a pretty common assumption, but the evidence goes against it. Look up interviews of successful illustrators and creative/art directors. When talking about what makes a good portfolio, they will always, always say how artists need to show a unified and cohesive style. Illustrators often have single, 'monotone' styles for a reason - it works. Being well known for a single unique style will be much easier on your career than trying to be jack-of-all-trades.

Totally understandable! Digital painting work is a ton of fun to do. My recommendation is to try experimenting more with merging the different styles you enjoy doing. I think you'll be able to come up with something really unique. If you really want to keep on with your digital painting work, I would recommend really tightening things up so they aren't so loose.

You can try to market yourself as a "well rounded" artist with a mess of a portfolio, but my point is that it's easier to get work as an illustrator with a single style rather an unfocused & unpredictable vision. If no one has told you this, then let me be the first to tell you that your work isn't good enough to catch anyones attention.

I don't think there's much that anyone can tell you specifically in terms of where to take your work next - that's something we all have to do ourselves.

It would help to know your end goal - what is it that you want to be? (Please don't say make a living off porn commissions/patreon.)

Probably one of the most beneficial things you could do right now.

This isn't really as much as a pipe dream as people make it out to be. Independently published comics through a small publisher can do just fine and you can totally make some money off your comics. Like everything else though - it's hard as fuck - but totally doable. I have an online buddy from Eastern Europe who's indie comic popped up in a popular comic shop around in in the middle of the US. He's got a other means of income, but his little indie comics definitely sell. It's very rare that it will become your primary source of cash, but selling your comics isn't that of an unreachable goal. Set your expectations low.

I think the trick is:
1. Have a unique, appealing style (ie. NOT influenced by manga)
2. Having good/clever/creative ideas. Humor is probably one of the most easy things to sell, so if you can tell an engaging story with a sprinkle of humor, I think that'll help a lot.

I don't know anything about story boarding though - sorry!

Maybe it sounds wierd to you, but every great illustrator does this (i researched this).
It makes you sound more objective and your arguments sound more agreeable.
It's a modern standard when writing your profile, wether it's LinkedIn or whatever.
Look up professional lawyers or economists on LinkedIn, i can 100% guarentee you it's written in third person.
The only time you would want to write in 1st person is if you're some kind of social worker because you want to sound like an empathic person.

Glad you think so, I just make strokes using 100% opacity (no pen pressure) and keep on erasing parts of the stroke that stick out. So yeah, just a lot of cleaning.

yeah maybe do some research on what the big art channels on youtube do with their speed paintings. a good idea that it's a speed paint worth watching is that you can talk about it for at least 1-2 minutes, you could fill the time with rambling, things happening in your life/online etc. it just brings more interest. it's especially important on youtube where your internet personality is a big part of the success.

as for making a more interesting drawing, it can be gimmicky like adding a bunch of jewellery/secondary elements to the scene (the only things you've got going is the face and the ear, nothing else to look at after that), doing a bunch of pretty faces (not just the one), or you can add story elements, which you're almost definitely going to need to get into if you want to be successful anyway.

even if you don't like his art i think sinix is a good artist for speed paints and having the videos be interesting to watch, check out his vsb series
