I've been learning to draw for years now however I haven't the slightest clue on how to design something.
I have gigabytes of inspo and reference but I have no idea what to do with it.
How do you make a good design? Something that looks nice and would function reasonably well? Are there any books to learn from, or is this something innate?

You started learning without an objective?

You're either lying or you have some kind of mental disability.
Increase your general knowledge not just drawing knowledge. If you want to design a cool outfit for example it helps if you know about the history of fashion, why people wear certain types of clothes for situations, how clothes are made etc.

Op depending on what you want to design you have to balance functionality and aesthetics.
Industrial design = functionality>aesthetics
Fashion = functionality<aesthetics
Basic.
You need to be more specific with you you're looking for. Learning to "design" is not descriptive at all.
