Is it possible to get a graphic design job without having a Graphics Design degree? Been thinking about it what its like working as a graphic designer. I majored in IT and work as a programmer. I don't mind my job, but I fantasize about what could have been sometimes.

Degrees are useless. Portfolios are invaluable.
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, cares about your art degree. You will NEVER be asked to show your degree.
Do you have a good portfolio? If so then yes. If not then no.

For freelance this is true. But for full-time positions sometimes they need them, especially if it is a teaching position or requires you moving and getting a visa. Source: I once didn't get a position in another country because I couldn't get the work visa without a degree, and I didn't have enough years experience at that point to act in lieu of one.

I don't have a portfolio and don't really know how to build one.

actually the more a graphic designer does the better, especially web & multimedia, but that doesn't mean that you'll get paid more, only be more exploited

Well that's an issue with the government, not the employer, and is a different question entirely.

Me either but I did it anyway and picked up a couple of GD clients. I don't really want to be a Graphic Designer though, but I'll take the work when it comes.

It's still relevant though
