I actually think the likeness is pretty good, but i think you made him look too young/good looking. his face has more folds and texture and his weird weasel hairdo just looks a bit too neat and tidy. i do really like the colors in the hair and the face though, pretty nice to look at in general.

It's meh. Would work well as a background for an animation but as a standalone piece its lacking. Are you going to add of interest like a character?
>>
>>2656979
its still pretty messy and rough, huh? i feel like people cant really help you when there is so little detail to really talk about. i think the saturation is pretty good, not too muddy. but in the light area between the thin trees, are there just gonna be hills/clouds/trees? i think some light grey tree trunks in that area could make it a bit more realistic because it kinda looks like empty space rn
>>
>>2656983

Ignore the sword in the background, It's not going to stay.

the monster leg seems to be too small, would also be nice to switch that faceless helmet but that's only my opinion.
>>
>>2657292
at the beginning when you could see just the silhouette, the way the legs were going to the side was nice, but now, when you added in details, it became stiff

you should move the tentacles somewhere behind the robot to give some dynamism tho foreshortening
>>
>>2657497
The helmet will have eye slots, I'm just worrying about the broad strokes at the moment details will come later. But as for the values, is the big guy reading well? Are the darks too dark? Lights not light enough?

>>2657292 The highlights on your robo-squid look muddy. I get that you're trying to visualize what color the metal will look like in bright sunlight and you do sortof have the right color for that, but it doesn't look good. Instead of using that single color for the highlights try having a variety of subtle color variations that, when you step back, amount to that general color. This can be easily done by color picking your highlight, then slightly changing the saturation or hue or light/dark in the color picker in photoshop (assuming that's what you're using) Do this a whole bunch and you'll get a lot more visual interest without drastically changing the lighting.

Also, for the highlights, it wouldn't hurt to give your metal a more metalic sheen, which I think you were going for but failed to achieve. To fix this simply blend the edges of the highlights into the dark a bit more and as you get to the middle of the highlight, where the most light will be reflecting back at your eye, have that be the brightest part. So basically just add more varyation to your highlights and it'll look more shiny.
>>
>>2657488
Really good. Reads well from the thumbnail. Great lighting.

>>2657292
What the previous anon said is correct, but to add to that, I enjoy looking at your little robots you're making for your card game and I keep feeling inspired when I see them. Keep going!

You have to figure out the light direction early on, should be one of the very first things you decide upon.
>>
>>2657226
messy combined with the 2 different drawn eyes and overall poor choice in colour results in us thinking you were trying to draw yourself and just failed due to the lack of ability
>>
>>2657849
is painting with black/grey/white first and then adding color a good way?
>>
>>2657901
It depends on your preference. Like tackling one problem before another as opposed to trying to figure out everything at once starting in grey scale can allow you to focus on the most important aspects of a picture, BUT the time will come when you have to add color and adding color to something is harder than building that something in color from the get go. It's not impossible ofcourse but it's a different kind of skill I guess. You should try it and see what you think.

What you need is to know is lighting
>pic-related (not mine)
Know the 3d planes of the face, forms etc. then apply lighting and place those shadows.

Also, sometimes using refs ain't bad. Googling up 'beach' shows that it's lighter on the bottom then darkens as it goes up.

sorry if my english is bad

Can you give context next time?
Mountains should be more defined rather than dashes of strokes because it makes it look a bit flat.

Use shadows. Rather than just apply one on the log, I feel the overlapping mountains (if any) should give a shadow aswell onto the landscape .

If this was in IRL, then the tail is just be extra weight acting as a drag.
So that means you could add more structural support to its hind legs or make it's gesture seem it's undergoing some weight at the hind legs.

>>

Hey bro. The house seems to be out of perspective. Compared to the values of the trees,it looks very small. Now if that were a warehouse far in the distance, with lighter value, suggesting distance, perhaps it might work. Also houses in the forest tend to look more like cabins.Make it look natural if you're going for house.

Please do some tastefully erotic drawings of Catt,
I think the key to her having energy again is to get
back in touch with her sexual energy and drawings of her as a sexual goddess would help greatly with that. Maybe 60's playboy style? Or a cute topless anime thing, she talked on facebook about how she was going to cosplay as Liru so that would be pretty hot.

I'm not asking for porn of Catt just tastefully erotic.

>>
>>2658926
At least do something interesting with your next Catt Drawing. Yet another black and white reproduction of her latest snapchat pic is boring, She has such great eyes and facial expressions, you should exaggerate and focus in on those aspects.

She must be almost a spider wrapped around the sexual part of your subconscious by now, I think you could come up with some amazing stuff if you did art based on the conflict between your idealized perceptions of her and all the deep carnal thoughts you have about her that you try to suppress.

Maybe focus on her own personal suppression of that side of herself, there's a lot of interesting psychological stuff going on with her and you're doing her a disservice to her by ignoring that in favor of safe "you have a cute smile!" stuff.
>>
>>2658959
I mean if you really do see yourself as a picasso level artist the next step is making art that is starkly psychologically honest and unguarded. Gamecatt is an ocean of fascinating contradictions and is clearly your muse, start using that to create powerful shit.

Thanks, I can definitely recommend that. I find it easier to work with colours, because limitations of palette become your friend.

Seems like you ditched that house, try again with something else than straight facade. Add some angles and give it some personality. Those sprites look fairly ok, but too easy and stereotypical. Tones look great though, just add bit of darker values to set up lights more clearly. If it's from front, give that foreground some blue and dark grays.

Here's one earlier, it's in progress. My plan is to add planted, young forest in front, pines to be exact.

I actually have a need to add one specific skeleton, but not sure it fits here. I can understand the need for point of interest, I'm constantly fighting with this subject. There's fine line what I could fit in, but I'm still looking for it. I think the balance is important, so I'm most likely adding near black greens and blues, then maybe a bit of fog.

Btw, camera issue was simply covered with a scanner, I'm painting tiny these days. And here's another old one I was fixing, these paintings cover my need to paint people. Not too happy with tones, tried to do some autumn vibes but ended up bit cheap.

Nice start, you just need to resolve some things. There are some drawing errors in your figure where basicalyl you just made her a silhouette/flat shape, but the forms are not yet there and her body is not sitting in the perspective of the image well either. I did a quick paintover, it's not perfect but hopefully comes across slightly better. Her butt needs to sit well on the ground plane, her head has to sit on her shoulders and neck properly etc.

I also changed the spirit to a cool faint blue colour to make it seem more like a magical apparition and add some colour variety to the image.

Otherwise I just started showing hte space a bit better and adding some lighting and smaller shapes. I think you had a nice start you just gave up too early in the image before you even solved everything.

When I see someone paint over pictures of mine and can see how much better it's been made, it helps me bridge the gap for understanding these concepts because I see their direct correlation in practice to an image which I already have in my imagination.

so i never ever did this advice thing, especially with overpaint so go lightly on me. although I am no drawing/rendering maestro so I must be just embarrass myself (but I blame you for color choices and night lightning).

so basically, construction is a bitch, but we all in that strungle, just got to carry on with it and keep drawing, your thought process and understanding will get better with time but it ALWAYS will be hard, especially with thing from your mind (unless you kim jung gi). and side view not particually hard.

when rendering always consider light sources. can't actually say anything about color, but look up robertson's book "how to draw". he describes 7 or 8 types of light sources (type of shadows?). it is the most valueable info you can get from this book, unless you want to be industrial designer. it will help you with rendering. also look up lightning and edges on photos and real life, it will help too.

so that's that, pardon my english.

I think you should put more time into drawing
You dont have to make it anatomically or structurally precise
Just think more about shape design, negative/positive space.
Make multple sketches, the first as a literal interpretation of form- then the second to *stylise*, manipulate the sillhouete to flow.
You can clean up the negative space between the chin and the scarf(?), simplify the shape of the mouth and nose, and the negative space between the back the head and the ponytail

my drawing on the right is a bit of an overused design, but it illustrates the point. You probably dont intend to stylise it this much, but you really shouldnt leave it looking like a stiff atelier head anatomy study. i'll see if I can do a paint over this for you too

Hey anon. I would say these are above average gesture sketches. The fact that you're drawing from the internet may hinder your spacial reasoning, but still they are good. Keep it up.

Woahh we got a bad ass here.

Did you post this with the intent of showing off how good you are?

Because this is some beginner levels of bad.

Never crop your drawing or painting. It just looks like pure shit. Unless you're doing a graffiti sketch.

until I get a temporary ban? Is that the consequence for honesty?

That's solid advice. I usually don't but this part of a class sketchbook and I'm trying to keep track of everything I use for what for a decent grade boost. I did do 3 more drawings right after this one tho.

Its just a sketch but some constructive criticism would be cool

You chicken scratch all day everyday. You should look up how Scott Robertson or Peter Han make lines. You should be able to make long and confident lines whenever you need to. Don't worry about messing up, messing up is the best thing that can happen so that you can learn from your mistakes. Once you're good at lines, you can look into gesture then forms. Good luck and remember to have fun.
>>
>>2660893

>don't crop your sketches.
>stop drawing from memory.
>Study about anatomy.
>>
>>2660773
There isn't really a right or wrong way to capture gesture as long as you've captured the figure's essence and energy, which you did. Keep going, don't get discouraged.
>>
>>2660893
Start over, get construction and anatomy down, learn composition and don't have the figure going off the page
>>
>>2660893
Body proportions are good, values could be better in that lighting is coming from the upper right and her arm to the right has the same value as the one to the left. Her face is pretty good in that you placed everything correctly, maybe she had a little too much chin, but it's better to have more chin than less chin, usually so that's not a big deal, and her eyes feel way too huge for her face, otherwise great sketch, anon.
>>
>>2660474
>>2660471

Why is she presenting herself to you?
>>
>>2660958
Oh and from her shoulder to the elbow is kind of long, the elbow should end where the ribcage ends.

You're doing really great with lines, I see you winging your values though, try to plan them out beforehand during the sketch and you'll see it's a lot easier and leaves you with a more appealing image.
>>

you did a good job, anon. I guess, after some time as you look at you know yourself what you should improve on, learn from this piece. get a better drawing next time (and dont hide feet), do a better job on lightning/values organization. desing is actually ok and would look better if you improve the above things. but overall, I am sincerely happy for you.

These are nice. I think now you are ready for the next step. Really tackle a full figure from now on. Even if you short hand or scribble in place holder hands, feet and heads make sure you try to get a full figure everytime. Judging from these I can tell you arent confident at heads and hands so make a point of jumping in head first at drawing them and after a few months they will start to click.

Skim through loomis' head and hands book to. You dont have to read it ( I didnt) just look get cliff notes on how he's constructing the head, do a few experiments on your own time and then practice what you learned at figure drawing. You'll get better at heads in no time.

You are absolutely mediocre verging on bad. The kind of deviantartist who has a big ego and can't improve because they're blind to how bad they are can't let go of "muh style".
Accept your mediocrity and drop the ego of you actually want to get anywhere

im gonna critique something as small as this just because this is good enough but there's no way her right hand could be reaching that far if her torso is tilted the other way, also the hands create a weird tangent which makes them not read as good.
