I'm a student, I work 4 days out of the week, I go to the gym, my first semester with a lab
Can anyone recommend a small drawing pad that can just fit in a pocket that won't break immediately or is it even worth the trouble?

It's called a pencil and paper.

get a moleskin or similar?
but if you want to waste money then get one of those note tablets
I really like the Moleskin Cahier. You can get a set of 3 pretty cheap. They get a tad tattered in your pocket all day but the pages inside usually stay in decent shape. The versions smaller than 5 x 8 feel a bit too small for my liking but there is a smaller version.

Prop up your leg, JESUS. What did all other artists do before you, sheesh. You need a servant to get on there hands and knees and you use him as an easel? Nut up a little, sit down on a bench and draw what's around you.
