Something's broken, what do I do?

>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

The people who you feel are "getting better than you" might be doing targeted studies on their weak ares specifically, and maybe aren't even posting all of their work every day. We only see as much information as they are willing to share.

Yeah I think the issue is that he is a bad teacher, but also he never wanted to be a teacher. I'm sure he wants to see other young artists improve, but because of how much spotlight he gets and questions he's asked, he maybe feels compelled to share his thoughts, but doesn't know how to break them down into easier to consume and understand bits.

Share interesting bits of information about anatomy or natural phenomena you learned during your studies, which don't have anything directly to do with drawing!

Because of its sturdy structure and protected location, fractures of the scapula are uncommon. When they do occur, they are an indication that severe chest trauma has occurred.

I had no idea that there was a different muscle (soleus) underneath the more characteristic calf muscle (gastrocnemius) that does most of the plantarflexion.

I also like the anti-symmetry of the radius and ulna where the former tapers to the elbow and the latter tapers to the hand.

Also I feel you on your family thinking your lazy. I remember when I was in high school I was learning perspective on my own and I sat down for like an hour and a half and drew a bath tub from imagination. It wasn't that good but I shaded it and everything and I was super proud of it. Then my dad walked in and asked me why I was sitting in the corner for almost 2 hours, when I showed him my drawing he just asked me what I get out of scribbling doodles on paper for so long. a few weeks ago my brother was complimenting my art saying I'm a pro, etc, and then my dad said my stuff just looks like nervous scribbles and he thought I drew all the time because I'm nervous of doing school work. He's super supportive of stuff other than art but he just doesn't seem to understand art at all.

Kinda bloggy but the point is that a lot of people won't understand your desire to pursue art so don't let them hold you back. Ignore them, keep grinding and git gud.

The sky is lighter towards the horizon and darker at the zenith because there's less atmosphere when you look straight up and directly out towards space. When you're looking across the atmosphere towards the horizon, you're looking through a curved lens almost, there's more between you and space. Everyday...I say to myself I'm going to improve, and I'm going to do more than just minimum. However when it comes to actually sitting down and working I feel weak and distracted, and I never accomplish what I intended. Maybe I'm just fooling myself into thinking I enjoy drawing, but I really do. I want to be able to create anything without having to think. I'm tired of the studies, the frustration I have when I can't draw whats right in front of me. I see others improve and it poisons my mind that I believe that I truly never will be a good artist. The hours I put into drawing with little improvement tells me I need to do more, but I am lost without any goals nor a concrete plan on how to improve. I just keep practicing everyday.

I've always wanted to draw the human figure, and since I started las ive seen tremendous improvement considering I only do 30mins to an hour. I was finally feeling it for the first time in weeks. My pen was in my hand it was gliding across my tiny ass napkin sized Wacom with such fluidity. One stroke, two strokes, three strokes, they were all going exactly where I wanted them to go. I drew for hours and hours and for the first time in a long while, I enjoyed it. For a brief moment I thought that I was gonna make it, that all those hours of drawing would finally pay off. Then I took a look at my work and realized it was shit, no it was worse than shit, it was an abomination. My art skills are actually regressing.

Aight who here have actually messaged him about the comic challenge problem. Or any other issues or messaging for him to come back the past two or three days.

Anyone wanna play web designer?
I'm building a little for-fun project to track art progress. Kind of like how LAS has worked, but it'll focus on showing you your progress through the months youve been submitting. (Everyone else's too). Automatic art progress charts, so to speak, where you can select pieces you've submitted each month, every other month, year, whatever. It'll take a while to make this functionality, so I got some time to think about how you can customize it.
Streaks of submitting every day, badges/achievements, and so on. --- Ideas welcome.

Very much learning a new framework building this thing too, but I'm liking the vision I have for it so far. What I need, however is someone decent at UX who could help me design it. Essentially you'd be putting together mockup images of partial pages. Like the submissions page, a user's profile, etc for me to use as a guideline when implementing the page.

Obviously I can do it myself, but I'd love someone who'd be interested in joining me and focus purely on the look of the website, as I'm focusing on functionality. Going to bed right now, but I'll be checking in. If anyone's interested, drop some mockup for a profile or submission page, which is what I'm implementing atm, and we can talk over mail, discord pm or whatever it is you use, if I like what I see.

Note this is a slow project, I have a fulltime job (developer), and I'm not trying to take over LAS or anything, it's just a passion project. It won't be up for a good while. Focusing on this more than drawing atm, though.

Definetly been on my mind. If anything I think having a designated channel of communication that can actually be moderated, unlike these threads is the only real solution, other than having no community outside of the site - which would require something like a forum, or chat(s) implemented. In the very least comments on submissions for people to interact.

These artists have to CHANGE their communities. There is a 64% drop out rate in week ones and a 87% drop out rate in the later weeks. The communities are just NOT installing the drive to work into their youth. You look at somewhere like concept art.org and they're just doing amazing. I tell ha, absolutely amazing. In grad school I only had two or three classes at a time. In undergrad I hadn't started drawing yet, but I wasted countless hours playing vidya and watching Chinese cartoons even with a full course load. Commuting 3 hours a day is beyond stupid, but I'm sure even with that you can scrounge up the time to draw if you were disciplined about doing assignments.
