Is this the best art instruction book ever, /ic/?

Can we have a link for this?

Those paintings don't even really look that realistic. I've seen a lot better hyper-realist work.
>>2630776
But anon, he's a modern master of hyperrealism!! It says so right there on the cover, can't you see?!?!
>>2630776
Yeah, I think one can say it's super-realistic, or maybe even ultra-realistic, but not hyper-realistic
>>2630890
You can always tell if someone played Base Wars growing up.
>>2630731
It's by far better realism than anything /ic/ could hope to muster. You'd benefit from buying the book.
>>2630731
I mean... what is it? I kind of get the impression it's just like doing the classic Bargue plates or something
Mark Crilley calls himself a ''modern master of hyperrealism''. All he's capable of is replicating realistic pictures of very small objects placed on a completely white plane, he's a complete hack. When he tried to replicate an object with a slightly more varied hue and values, here's what he got, didn't even bother to put a side by side comparison on this one. If this guy ever tried to do a life study of an actual environment it would be a complete disaster. Don't buy this shitty book I don't know why OP is shilling this.
>>2630898
There's literally plenty of people in the draw thread right now that are better than this guy. You'll gain nothing from this book, it's exactly like one of those ''how to color flowers'' tutorials you find on Deviantart.
>>2630731
bess instruction books are fundamentals focused: drawing form, lighting form, composition ect. realism from copying 1:1 you might as well study bargue plates and learn cool visual design and spend some time drawing the body, drawing eggs and leaves is kind of a memey waste of time considering that other stuff you could be working on
>>2630928
Holy shit, I'm never coming back to this board again. If this is the mentality of it's users, no one here will ever get good. Hyperrealism is an extremely important skill, much more so than your stupid 'looooomis.'
Not to mention, Mark Crilley is one of the most talented and accomplished artists in the field. I'd take his advice over an anonymous idiot's any day. Stick to your shitty anime, while I'll be out there making real art.
>>2631504
Calm down Mark Crilley.
>>2631504
>Pic related, my work.
>>2631504
toppest kek
Help me /ic/.
What is the point of meticulously copying a photo? Why is hyper-realism a thing in the age of the camera? What is the appeal of this style when they look exactly as their "reference"?
>>2631504
What's up Mark?
>>2631561
views and fame. pretty obvious, most people would keep it to their self if its practice. but either way, its a good way of learning but doubt it would help the creative original side of painting.
>>2631504
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAA
>>2631568
Is it a good way of learning though? Using rulers, plumb-lines, dividers and so on to exactly transfer over a photo and then dot by dot place color tiles is purely mechanical. Take away the source photo and you're completely castrated, nothing to stand on.
>>2631574
depends, but im not gonna go any further on something i hardly know my self. but the way you put it, maybe it'll help your rendering skills.
>>2631504
Good riddance 2bquite frank, laddy
>>2630928
Haha oh wow.
>>2631504
>Stick to your shitty anime, while I'll be out there making real art.
????
But anon Crilley is a weeaboo and draws terrible animu-eqsue trash
>>2631504
ebin
simply ebin
>>2631920
I challenge you to draw that better, no memes.
>>2631923
...to what end?
I can't be bothered, anyways. Have an old sketch instead. Hands are pretty terrible on it, but whatever.
>>2631923
>>2631933
Sorry bud, but Crilley's art looks more confident and just looks better.
>>2631561
Making art is its own reward, anon. Perfecting the art of picturemaking by hand.
Those who worry about their "style"and "self-expression" are just looking to assert themselves, validate themselves; which is everything that art is not about.
Hyperrealism is an expression of pure skill: there is only the subject and its rendering. In this it is free from the 'artist' and as such is pure art.
>>2631954
not really
>>2631939
>mfw
Yeah ok man whatever you say
>>2631954
Pretentious/10
>>2631954
Bullshit.
- If it is an expression of pure skill, then at most it is craftmanship.
- It can't be free from the artist, because an artist determined what has been painted.
>>2631954
>he has never heard of creativity
>>2631954
>Hyperrealism is an expression of pure skill
It really isn't, with enough patience anyone can mechanically grid over a photograph and place the identical color tile by tile.
>>2631954
get back into whatever wormhole you crawled out off
those in the bizarro world are searching for you
>>2631504
wew fucking lad this is some top shelf bait
>>2632510
you force my hand.
