I actually never tried carpenter's pencils for drawing, I'll try it I actually have some in the garage.

I love using mechanical pencils on the go since I'm usually drawing on a smaller surface of a sketchbook so the thinner lines are great. Sometimes I take my brushpen(i have like (1 with pure ink and 2 or 3 others each with a different mixture of water and ink for shading) or felt tip fineliners and 2 or 3 copics for shading if I feel like using permanent mediums.

At home I really love using conte sticks. It's such a dynamic medium for gestures.

i wanna say carpenters pencils are almost better for line confidence(which i struggle with) in the way that such a thick line is a pain in the ass to erase over and over again.

that being said i mainly use ballpoint pens and have just recently started using carpenters pencils cause i had one lying around

You're part of the problem with so many artists in this day and age. The pencils aren't fucking important. Only amateurs who have no idea what they are doing think pencils actually matter. They don't. The standard #2 is all you need. Asking about pencils implies that having them is going to get you anywhere. It's not.

I would like to add that the leads last forever. I've been using one for months and I'm still on my first lead.
