This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.
Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, keep boys out of this thread!

Good choice.
>>2626485
God dammit Pops where's your tumblr/pixiv/deviantart or whatever?
>>2626485
Well good job, you are one of the very few and rare gems that actually has an appeal and a likeness in their work instead of a dull and lifeless cookie cutter symbol; something /ic/ will not understand how to convey in their art and never will.
I advice you to leave this place before you turn bitter and sour and lose the consciousness that is indicated and expressed in your figures there's nothing for you to gain here and I say this with sincerity you will have everything to lose here.

all he's got based on this pic is a good grasp for constructing faces out of symbols. I take a look at the bodies and all I see is unfinished flatness.
>ignore the writing it was a quick sketch for a draw thread
I want to go back an actually draw a proper face and so forth. Does anyone have a good way to draw lace patterns/fabric patterns. I want to make my own and not download a brush.
>>2627025
If you mean the inner pattern symbols you're gonna need to draw at a far bigger res than that to make it worthwhile.
>>2627029
It's actually really big, this is just a screenshot. I want to have a realistic lace pattern but I want to avoid using others peoples brushes or vectors.
>>2627034
My advice is you do have to learn to use vectors for this kind of thing.

You're good, Pops. Don't listen to the other people, even if you're imitating Kron. The point should be "wow, he's capable of imitating Kron and producing different, fresh stuff". If not, congratulations, you're on Kron's level, and can be better.

Unless it's absolutely pivotal, maybe put 'her' arms behind her back for now, the normie on the street isn't going to accuse you of hand hiding or particularly care.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62eW7EbP1Qc
Some old shit. I would say it was to practice lighting, but it was more to see how I could work over something purely of values (and how it comes out).
>>2627755
Why not have the hand and arm resting on her leg? Or more to the side and less centered? You could also try bouncing her up in a more pullout position.
>>2627821
You're only making colors brighter or darker and using value incorrectly
When there's warm light the lit surface has warm colors and the shadows are cold, and viceversa
It's also not a matter of using either orange or blue because there are cold oranges and warm blues. The palette has to be in balance
>>2627823
Yeah, I know, those are from a month or two ago. My color theory was incredibly shit (and still is). I've never really been able to find a good guideline for following colors (although it's probably somewhere in /beg/ or books). I've been following Sycra more recently to see how he goes about it deciding colors and warm/cold ranges etc. At the moment I'm only effective in painting out grayscale values, and dealing with volume, terrible at actually painting.
>>2627830
sycra is not a painter (and is pretty bad anyways) so that won't do
get 'alla prima' (it's on the book thread) and read the color chapter
>>2627889
Sounds pretty fair.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kQllLy_X4I
I was using this as a basic idea of picking colour and where to stay in the wheel. I wouldn't say he's "bad" but stuck. His work has not changed in quality for almost 2 years, despite obvious ways to improve.
I will definitely get alla prima. Now that I'm finished with classes (atleast for some time) I can finally start reading/concentrating on art.
As a side question, how do you feel about sinixdesign? Only found his channel recently so I haven't been able to watch him much but I like his method and outcome.

So when you do that little braid design do you actually draw each one out or do you just copy/paste it and then rotate?
>>2629687
that's a patterned brush in photoshop
>>2629677
the rendering is betraying the form in a few key places, mostly on the arms, also your bounce/rim lighting is a bit too strong, it shouldn't be reaching the same intensity of the upper midtones in the rest of the figure as it does in a few areas on your drawing. your speculars are a bit too bright and the overall base skintone is a bit too red to the point that she looks a lil sunburned (tho that might just be me having a different monitor displaying colors different from yours)

What do you think about the colors on this one? I have no idea of what i should do on the rendering phase...
Been experimenting with sprite art after working on pen an paper for so long. I'm still trying to get the hang of a tablet, its a lot different than working with a pencil.

That's not exactly sprite work friend, just no AA. Not a sprite artist, but shouldn't you work on a way smaller canvas.
>>2632336
He uses a lot of disconnects and focuses on form and expression rather than perfection. There's alot of unattached lines and rigged curves etc, but it's not chicken scratch, and that lack of perfection and kind of scribbly nature makes it more pleasing. That's just my idea though.

Polished it some more, but i'm not used to this style. what do you think?
Trying out stippling but i'm struggling with the ground foliage arrangement and density
It ain't anime, but it's alternative and it's stylized and it's driving me mad.
I've spent days trying to get the material for this down. I'm supposed to be able to draw a sphere with the black metal's material on it with the lighting from the scene so I can apply it to a complex shape, but I can't. I don't get it, I start with either black or dark grey since it has little or no diffuse light, and then I try to add the light sources and it all just goes to shit. Even the little brown reflection on the bottom left is driving me nuts. It's stylized more than I can handle.
Can someone tell me how to break this down because I have like 6 more of these things I have to work out and/or draw this one's material on a sphere for me and maybe something will click and I'll see the connections between the final complex shape and the material on a basic shape.
I have actually lost sleep trying to tackle this and it's embarrassing but I'm obsessed and need to get this.
>>2632427

>>2633160
Why don't you just google black metal ball, sphere, material, texture and such. I already see a lot of references.
>>2633236
Because I want the material and lighting to be as consistent as possible instead of basing it on any metal orb with any light setup.
>>2633246
But you can't make it, don't you. Just deal with it and improvise. It's better than perfection.
And no, I'm not mocking you. Seriously, if you are that desperate, at least you should have posted your work in progress or something not just vague descriptions. We don't know shit about your current status of the pic, the shape of the object, nor its lighting conditions, right?
To be honest, even if you posted the wip it is far more efficient for YOU to just look up some tutorial or something, draw it, then show us your black metal ball so that we could give you feedbacks. If there's no tutorial, copy and paste other images of black metal balls and transform / adjust it. If you don't know how to, or just can't do that simple level of retouching or kinda matt-painting shit or something, you should reconsider your CG tool of choice in the first place.

Working on redrawing an old piece from about a year back.
>>2633976
Totally.
>>2633976
Your style is really unique and pretty
Do you draw comics or some shit?
>>2633992
Nete!
>>2633999
Thanks, and yeah, that's my goal.
My friend is a writer, and we're gonna get started on working on this comic in a couple months. We've moved in together so we can support each other and lower the cost of living as much as possible so we can work on making different comics and stuff.
Our goal is to have a good 50% of this project done by around this time next year, and then start releasing chapters bi-weekly, have them online, free for everyone to read. If people like our stuff, then we'll open up a Patreon so we can stop working, and live off of comic making. We wanna make sure we have a very good quality project done before we start asking people to support us though, we want our work to speak for itself.
This particular comic, is a ghost detective comic, that's inspired by Watanabe's work (ya know, Bebop, Champloo, etc...), so it's a bit of a blend of classic ghost mystery, and 90s Punk counterculture. It's set in London in the late 90's. It also unique in that all the ghosts aren't really ghosts, but rather personal demons manifested as spirits. So each chapter is written in that Champloo/Bebop style of fashion that's very notorious of Watanabe's work. Th art style itself is also picked intentionally. That's why I chose flat colors and such. Cause I want it to have that pop art look to it too. Have it evoke that late 90s early 2000s nostalgia ya know. The style I'm drawing in is also slightly reminiscent of 90s anime.
By around this time next year, I should be shilling the first chapter round these parts, as well as /co/, /a/, and so forth.
>>2633976
Would do without the sameface problem.
The colors are too flat too, no shading at all.
Also loomis. That is not how faces work.
You are still too new to try stylization. Try to go for a 100% realistic painting style first before trying anything else, like shakespeare.
As for the other question, half those characters are too ugly to be a ghost story, and the style is too western.
You should go for a style more similar to thos:

Now that I feel more confident with lines and drawing in general, all of a sudden all those boxes and cilinders and construction is like a fucking godsend instead of the unsourmountablistibitistic obstacles they seemed to be when I first started.
I can even tell when a drawing is stiff.

Why even bother? Just give up on drawing and watch tv all day instead.

Girl with the black hair is the MC's younger sister. The blonde chick is a living cocktease.
Got two more.
Finally got around to making progress on my Mononoke BotW thing. Should be done this weekend.

Her arm and hand look a little wonky to me, the perspective seems off on them I think. Also whatever's sticking out of her mouth looks awful at that angle, it doesn't read well at all.

i'll play around with the arm. and i hadn't considered how the lollipop stick might read. gotta find a better angle.
thanks for the crit.

Love your colors

I like your perception of noses, putting shaded values rather than a contour line to show presence.

the signs say kimchi but the decorations say china.
How do you draw anime hair that isn't exactly large clumps/straight/simple? Hair in real life is mostly in large forms unless it's frizzy or curly hair but in anime like pic related anything goes.
Is there something I'm missing besides replicating the contours/shapes?
