So I'm having trouble understanding his stuff. I got Figure Drawing for All It's Worth based off the recommendation of this one lady whose art I liked. But I don't know how to approach it.
Would getting pic related help?
Also I'm interested in figure drawing classes but can't afford them. Any alternatives?

mirrors are your best friend
use them
you probably don't understand it because you're jumping into something as complex as the head of a human being
start with still lives and shapes
Start with Fun With a Pencil, it's the primer for his other material. It'll teach you basic form, perspective and construction to get your feet wet.

I agree with this anon, the face is a combination of several planes and shapes. Think of objects as polygonal, start with a low poly count before you build up.

Mirrors are definitely not friendly to me.

i think for some reason he doesn't want to accept that he shouldn't start with heads

I see. His teaching is a bit odd to me. So I'll try that.
