I want to achieve this kind of linework, how does Kim Jung Gi do that?
Especially with the thin grey lines for the hatching and face details, what kind of pen does he use that allows for such a fine line?

It's hard for me to figure out what's going on because of the extremely low resolution of the scans of the 2013 sketchbook that this comic originate from

Anyone can help me figure it out? Or provide better more high quality scans of this comic?

he uses a pigment liner, it's just some micron, perhaps some kind of inking nib, brush, brush pen for solid blacks

and im sure they get touched up in photoshop
>>
>>2622569
He's said a few times he prefers Pilot Hi-Tec-Cs but he'll use any pen. 0.25mm and 0.3mm Hi-Tec-Cs make extremely fine black lines. He usually uses Pentel brush pens when he does demonstrations on large canvases. There was a thread a few weeks ago where we identified every pen he had in his travel pouch but one.
>>
>>2623242
Do you know if he uses a specific pencil for sketching?
>>
>>2623286
He has said he doesn't use pencils very much anymore, although some of his drawings have blue penciling underneath. He says he usually skips the sketching and goes right to inking. If you're so interested in the guy you can find his demos and interviews.
>>
Kim's line quality is beyond human but, why It's really hard to understand it's meaning? I can see what he drew but flow in a whole is very confusing
>>
>>2623286
I once saw him use 5H pencil for sketching the Spy Games comic. But I don't think it's as important as what he uses for final inking
>>
It's basically confidence based on skill and repetition. Certain marks can only be done with quick, bold motions that almost seems to begin before you think. Draw from life every day directly in ink. I've done it for a few weeks now and I've made huge gains
>>
>>2623242
Yeah, thinking about it, it's possible that he uses Hi-Tec-C.
Tho what I don't like about the pen is that it isn't as flexible as Micron

The gray ink (especially pronounced in >>2622575) might be using this http://www.jetpens.com/Kuretake-Zig-Cartoonist-Mangaka-Outline-Pen-01-Gray/pd/8629
>>
>>2623487
and the really fine lines might either be the 0.25 Hi-Tec-C or the Copic Multiliner 0.03 (which I haven't tried yet, so I don't know how fine the pen is)

Should I do this before or after I become really good at anatomy and perspective?
Because I'm afraid I'm in the "Getting better but never good" thing where I just end up never practicing inking, but at the same time practicing inking takes away from my anatomy time so I just end up shit at both
What do, /ic/?
>>
>>2623499

stop worrying and just draw

draw anatomy studies with a pen
>>
>>2623378
Is It just me or is that hand in the picture elongated as fuck?
>>
>>2623499
Dude. draw anatomy studies with a pen. bam! two birds, one stone.

How to Draw from Scott robertson might give you some good insights on pen materials and tecchniques (that dont need to be applied just to drawing mech n cars)

(and "drawing with pen" doesnt mean you cant do an undersketch in pencil first)
>>
>>2626841
yes, probably for composition sake
>>
>>2626841
it's two hands, I think it's fine
