> Want to do commissions
> Need to set up pricing
> Don't know wither set price / work or price / hour

Problem is
> Doing SOLID linework over sketch can take me up to 35 hours for a piece
> Then have to add greyscales / colors which takes about 10 hours

Am I retarded ? Should linework take this long ?
If I charge per piece (Which should be low pricing) I'd be scammed, if I charge per hour, clients will think I'm scamming them.

Wat do.
Are you guys working to the point where you are underpaid too ?
>>
35 hours is a lot for me, sounds more like the time for color and render a big work. You should try to improve that time.
Just put a price fair for you for the time you spend. If people are ask for commissions, they should know that you take a time, because if not, is not worth because they will expect things that you can not do.

It takes me a while to do linework too. Sketching is pretty quick but with lineart, I feel like it's more my OCD getting in the way. I see a lot of line art from other artists I like (pic related) and while the lines read well, when you pay close attention or zoom up close you notice they aren't completely flawless.
>>
>>26216310
no it should not
in case you're not trolling you're probably having really bad habits and methods to drawing/painting and you should really start focusing on indentifying ways to solve problems faster, the simplest the better
btw, you can get more help if you post examples of your work process
>>
>>2621630
What are you drawing that would take that long?
>>2621675
Who's the artist? Reverse search isn't getting me anything.

kurojill on twitter
they are also on pixiv.
pixiv.net/member.php?id=64795

I love their stuff.
>>
You might be zooming in way too much. Are you any faster inking on paper?
>>
>>2621787
What effect does zooming have? Too much time spent on meaningless detail?
>>
>>2621697
Characters wearing costumes and weapons. I don't paint over lines and try to keep them as clean as possible.
>>2621787
I'm faster on paper, but I have no other choice but to zoom in when doing digital because if I don't do so, the lines get squigly / squarry even tho I have lazy nezumi on PS (It's all about the tablet size).
>>
>>2621788
Yes, but it also influences the amount of lines it takes to cover an area. If you're zoomed in for example, you can cover a centimeter with one gesture versus the entire page with one gesture if zoomed out.

>>2621793
I don't know what to suggest other than inking on paper and coloring on the computer. You could also try another program for inking that has better stabilization than ps+lazy nezumi, such as clip studio or sai and switch back to ps for color. I wonder if your tablet has trouble, because even with a small size, the lines shouldn't be jagged.
>>
>>2621827
So far, that's what I was thinking : switching to Paint Tool Sai as for inking, then going back to PS for color, shading and overall rendering..

And I've tried other tablets, from Cintiq 13 to Intuos Large (I own a Intuos Medium) and it's really all about the tablet size; The intuos large was helping a damn lot as I could do huge lines without squigly shit because I was zoomed out and the surface was larger..

But hey, thanks for the tip man, I prolly should go try Sai now

>35 hours
linework takes me like 3 hours for a complicated piece.

either don't offer com for linework pieces or just practice until you're fast enough. you will probably be underpaid yeah but if you're taking 35 straight hours to do a piece it's impossible not to be underpaid.

if you get good and can barf out comms in 3-5 hours you'll be gold.
>>
wtf
It takes me less than 3 hours to do a $60 commission.
Why would you spend 40+ hours on one drawing? Just work a regular job man.

Can you post your work?

35 hours is extremely excessive for just lineart. If you post something we can look at we can tell you what you're doing wrong.

I once made a look-alike replica of this piece which took me 1.5 hours of sketching, 9 hours of linework and about 18 hours for the rest (Colors, shading, lights, details).

Is 9 hours too much when you want to make a good, solid linework ? Is it worth ? Is it better to be messy and cut the time in half ?

>>2622020
post yor shit
>>
>>2622024
I can't post furry shit, I'd be banned.
It's extremely mediocre though. It's just good enough to make about $600-$800 a week.
>>
>>2622027
>mediocre
>$600-$800 a week.

post some of your shit cause I dont believe you make that much with "mediocre" art
>>
>>2622029
same
hell, if you really do, imma go in this shittrain with you.
dont post pic, post link to your gallery
>>
>>2622029
It really is that easy to make money from furry porn. Go see for yourself. I've been doing it for three years.
>>
>>2622029
i believe him. say he draws dogman buttfuck pics for 150$, that's only 4 buttfucking dogman pictures to make 600$. 4 pics a week is easy
>>
>>2621630
>35 hours to line one work
>10 hours to tone
so....45 hours for one piece....
without color...

thats literally an entire standard work week in the US..

you work must be beyond studio grade to make a living that way....

you are looking at above 600 USD for that piece.

thats stepping into the fine arts world of price demand.

work faster work sloppier charge less, its an industry, your work needs not be the best, just not the worst, your prices need not be low just not the lowest.

implying anyone would want to even do the work to fuck you over, we dont get paid for that, we have other more important shit to do. you sound very immature, thinking you are important enough to attack.

we only ask for the link as to better aid you ,you nigger.

as you were asking questions, and we are trying to help, because that IS worth doing for free.
>>
>>2622035
OP here
the 10 hours includes colors, values and minor details
then again, is it normal for a piece like >>2622024 to take 10~ hours just before going into values and colors ?
Characters I am working on usually have 2x more details, therefore, it takes 2x longer to do the linework..

how much is too much ?
>>
>>2622044
Look at how much you're getting paid and how much time you're putting in. If you're not even getting paid minimum wage per hour where you live then you're doing something incredibly wrong.
>>
>>2622040

Are you new here or something? Seriously.
We have already discussed this issue on many occasions in the past.
Everyone here knows that the furry market is the market that more money gives, and we all agree that although it is not a kind of well appreciated art in this place, there is no objection to that is a very cringe market where you can earn enough even with a single work.
Please post pic related i don't have it.
>>
>>2621793
Hey man, honestly, I think you just need to get better and faster with digital. It shouldn't be taking you that long to do linework unless it's some huge and intricate piece. For typical work from places like dA and stuff, you should only really be taking like 3-5 hours (if even) for things like OC commissions.
>>
>>2622500

>>
>>2622538
Why would one want to pay for unfinished work?
>>
How is it possible to spend 35 hours on a piece of line art?
Are you constantly starting over from scratch or something?
>>
>>2622542
are you pertaining to paying sketch and lines and no BGs? or just that it looks unfinished because I didn't post full sex draws?
>>
>>2622044
I don't think 10 hours inking that piece is "too slow", but my question is more like "what's the fucking point?"
It's a busy image, lines do not need to be pixel perfect, infact it often detracts from a drawing, you need some sloppiness/flow/flexibility to it.

It's an extremely effective trade-off because you'll take 10% the time and it'll look better once you get used to that workflow.

The trick is to work on a bigger canvas, too, so your lines can be more imprecise and still look precise.
>>
>>2622004
No wonder Voldemort wanted to snuff it

So guys let's say I'm a nsfw artist and I want to start doing commissione while remaining completely anonymous. What are the safest payment methods?
