He's talking about other for-profit/unaccredited art schools too. FZD or Gnomon for example are just as notoriously awful about teaching art as CalArts or SVA. Awful for different reasons, but still awful.

You've somewhat misjudged me. While it doesn't say it in any of the images I've made-I can understand the confusion-I not only advocate self-teaching but I also advocate relatively inexpensive ateliers (just like Watts'; I attend an atelier myself), apprenticeships and online courses' eventually replacing the boutique art schools. These schools have had such a bad track record for failing to confer real skills in their students and they have criminal tuition rates that makes their executive staff rich while impoverishing their students and releasing them into the wild in a highly competitive industry.

Watts shares a similar sentiment in this video that I encourage you to watch (it's a little long, but worth it in my humble imho).

It tells a story.

People call it an Illustration. The style it is based on is a more "realistic" approach to the popular Japanese aesthetic.

Anime or Manga are not visual styles, rather they are mediums to tell a specific story in a specific way. Mangas and Anime = sequential story telling. Mangas and Anime =/= big eyes and sharp chins.

If I made and released a Japanese animation with an aestheic style that is most popular to westerners it is STILL an Anime because

Use Anime in the same way you would use the word Illustration. It describes the subcategory that the specifc artform resides.

The style is the visual aesthetic of the final image. Which can be anything: chibi, realistic, impressionistic, abstracted, etc etc.
