if you study the gif frame by frame you'll see that it's a genuine painting. their process was just very macro to micro and already "correct" overall from step one. sure it looks like a photocopy (and you can like it or hate it) but the artist clearly knows what they're doing.

Don't stress over drawings anon. Just do what you can and move on to the next one. Your eye will improve. If you want a crit look closer to the features. You have drawn an outline around the nose and mouth but there is no solid outline in the reference. Instead the forms are separated by differences in tone, use your shading. And no smudging!
