I'll help you translate this:

What materials do you think this drawing is done with? And what is the modern equivalent of that material that can be purchased in dickblick?

You're drunker than me

You most certainly can't buy it in chain shops and this technique is called silverpoint, stylus should costs you around/a bit less than $100.

Also I don't understand why would you like to draw/paint like Da Vinci. He did wet on dry and his oil paintings probably were made through years because of how many layers there were and how he had to draw/paint all those details painstakingly.

And it's still not the top of realist painting, compared to guys who later did wet on wet renaissance paintings look at least a bit...funny.

Also why would you want to use techniques from times when people didn't have mirrors, good pigments or really any materials at all? Do you want to be like Leonardo - poor failure for most/all of his life?

> "In the normal course of events many men and women are born with remarkable talents; but occasionally, in a way that transcends nature, a single person is marvellously endowed by Heaven with beauty, grace and talent in such abundance that he leaves other men far behind, all his actions seem inspired and indeed everything he does clearly comes from God rather than from human skill. Everyone acknowledged that this was true of Leonardo da Vinci, an artist of outstanding physical beauty, who displayed infinite grace in everything that he did and who cultivated his genius so brilliantly that all problems he studied he solved with ease."

>Failure
>>
>>2583222
as said by vasari, probably the hardest davinci fanboy out there
but his life is filled with many many miserable failures before he finally achieved great success at a very late age
>>
>>2583222

He was a fucking failure, nobody wanted to hire him to do stuff for them and when he finally was hired to make "Lady with an Ermine" he put more detail on a fucking animal than on the face of a woman getting portrait. How do you think this was received?

His big-ass project of having horse sculpture he worked on was ultimately scrapped because his employer needed to use material for cannons and not for such frivolous garbage.

Oh and you know what was hot shit back then? Sistine chapel. Do you think Leonardo was considered to work on it? Fuck no. He was nobody and had to make a living drawing dead people and that's the reason for his anatomy studies.

Great talent indeed, today he'd be laughed on /ic/ that he has 0$ Patreon and is an autist who can't into industry and serious clients.

More like $15.

The real shit part about silverpoint is having to prepare your surface with a ground before you can draw. You can get those Ogami stone notebooks, but an entire sketchbook just for silverpoint drawing seems like a waste.

No

N-no, t-that's not true, L-Leonardo life was g-great and he w-was a-a-appreciated! ;____;

you are trying too hard faggoto kun sempai.

dont talk ill and lies upon the dead.
>>
Who gives a shit about whether his peers appreciated him, he was a genius and we all know that.

Silverpoint:
>very pricy
>very difficult to master
>doesn't even look that exceptional
Unless you're God of all hipsters under the sun, grab yourself a sanguine pencil and some chalk and you're all set to draw the old masters' style.
>>
>>2583464
Also, if you want silverpoint to practice, a micron pen has pretty much the same effect.
>>
Regular modern acrylic gesso, thinned down a bit with water, will take metal point well, and can be tinted with some watercolor or gouache mixed with the acrylic gesso.

Copper can work well too, although it blunts easier and bends easier. For this reason you can fashion a knife of sort with copper keeping it somewhat wide according to your judgment of whether it should bend or not, and have the tip come to a point at around 45 to 30 degrees.

You can buy a roll for silver wire for not much, and will last you for a long time.

kek. You saw that one video.

He was employed in more things than just painting on panels. He also designed for court pageantry and other temporal events, like a lot of painters back then. Especially when you consider the workshop of Verrochio, which took on diverse types of projects.
