I've never read an art book in my life to be completely honest with you and I've never studied formally. I wish I had some actual advice for you but I genuinely think everything I draw is trash so I'm a little perplexed right now.
The image of the female figure is referenced from a Hyper Angle still somebody posted in the reference thread though so it's not like I drew it freehand. The other one is which is why it looks worse. That Hyper Angle book looks pretty good though so you should totally check it out anyway, I might as well.

Go read the sticky for KNAWLEDGE... just do it trust me... dont look for any more advice one here just go study a bunch of books until you understand. then when you think you understand post another shitty picture, proceed to get bashed by /ic/ some more than study some more rinse repeat. eventually it should all just click and you will either understand that you just have to study no matter how talented you are or you give up.

It would take a long post to pick the whole thing apart but just as a start fix the position of his features like his eyes and his ears, a quick glance at the ref would show you how off they are. But also if that doesn't work for you and you still don't see the errors overlay the ref in whatever program you're using.
