What do you write on your about me page of your website or tumblr? I don't know if I should even make one. Some people don't even have one and i feel like a self absorbed faggot for thinking it's even important.

give me examples of a good one, or yours.

oh /ic/. never change.

can we get some examples of good ones, and really cringey bad ones to show us what not to do?

is it amateur to draw yourself and put it on about page? whenever i saw self portraits on about me pages i think "is that how you see yourself" hahaha
>>
I know this is a hard thing to do.
I hate explainung or introducing myself but an about page is pretty much essential.
People want to know who the person behind the website is.
I find this somewhat cucial when posting work too. Just uploadind some picture without mentioning anything about the process (tools used, how the idea evolved etc.) kinda kills it.

It shoul go without saying but: You really shouldn't refer to yourself in third person.
Also:
List your skills, your interests.
If you'd like to bond emotionally with the person, mention something personal but totally unimportant like "I don't like green cars" or whatever.
It'll make you more reachable, more human.

I really hate it when good artists don't have about me pages. It's like, man, I want to know more you know?? About me pages are one of those things that if someone was interested in your art, they'd slurp it up, and if they weren't, they wouldn't click it in the first place so if you're self conscious about your profile making a bad impression, you already made that first impression with your art anyway so it's only the people who want to read your stuff that will read your page.

I think this is way too long but I rather prefer this over nothing if I liked your art: http://lindsayarcher.com/wp/the-artist/lindsay-archer-biography/

At the moment my about page is literally about me. It's really not businesslike at all. I don't have any credentials under my belt, I actually study in a different field, and I have hobbies and outside interests that channel into my art. I mention those. I stick to only a paragraph. I want to make myself more personable because I like reaching out to people. I know it won't make up for bad art but I think it would still paint a picture of me as more than just my lack of skills lmao
>>
My about page is pretty basic: the big names stuff I work on to catch employers' attention, the littler stuff to show my range, my hometown and a hobby or two.

>is it amateur to draw yourself and put it on about page

A lot of the pros I know do this. It's cute, why not. It also shows a bit of your style, I guess. I prefer a doodled self-portrait than an unnecessarily high-res modelling portfolio headshot, ugh.
>>
>>2570818
can you show me examples of pros doing this? I want to know what it looks like when pulled off well. The only ones I've seen come from tumblr-tier young people drawing themselves all cutesy or something.
>>
>>2570831
I can't think of names off the top of my head but I've seen it a lot on portfolios by younger people in the comics industry.

People drawing themselves cutesy is fine if it accurately and honestly reflects their work and their personality. That kind of thing really humanizes a page that can otherwise be really sterile.
>>
>>2570842
I think a lot of animation and comic artists draw themselves, not really other artists though. I guess it's a niche thing.

Anyway I wouldn't want to draw myself. Besides my paragraph, I'll just let my artwork speak for me.

The thing is that some(probably most) of us don't have anything interesting to tell about ourselves. I didn't graduate, didn't get any awards, didn't have any good clients. You see what I enjoy drawing from my portfolio pieces. What else am I supposed to write?
>>
>>2570902
It depends on the direction you want to take your webpage. If it's solely for business, then list
>where you graduate
>awards
>clients
but if you're a student or hobbyist without any of above, it may help to get people interested if you flesh yourself out a bit. There are tons of great artists out there so if you make rapport with a potential client on something not-really-art related, it gives you an advantage. for example if you went to the same atelier as the client. happens in business all the time.

For me it's a little different because instead of "I am an artist" I am more like "a person who also draws". I often talk about the things I watched or places I've been to related to art, but I also post about a classroom catching fire or getting hit on by teenagers which explains why I haven't updated in weeks.
>>
>>2570902
oh also forgot to add. things you can add in about me are like... what other non-art things you do, where you come from, your favorite videogames. if you have fans, your fans are gonna want to know this kind of stuff and eat it up quick.
>>
>>2570106
This your first day on the internet or what?
>>
>>2570924
You can post that on your blog, but not your portfolio. It's just unprofessional and cringy to list your favorite video games/foods/whatever on your portfolio
>>
>>2570987
some people already mention where they're from on their professional webpage (portfolio) and how they live with two cats or whatever, but on your tumblr or blogspot where you post sketches and do askme's, it's definitely fine.

lmao at the food tho. nobody cares about that.
