This old work/new work meme is shit. It just leads to cherrypicking images and misrepresenting timelines. Besides, anybody who is good was once shit, so you know that they made a progression. There's literally no point in making one of those progression images except to stroke your own cock and hope others lap it up.

>>

I like seeing other people's progression, are you butthurt that nobody replied to yours last time or something?

I don't know about others, but I keep a folder of my favorites every month then if I do a progression image I tend to include those. I don't pick the worst of my old ones and the best of my new ones, I pick the best of both. Even if they did cherrypick their worst earlier works and their best new ones, it's still interesting to see the progression.

tl;dr stop being so butthurt.

I've never posted one on /ic/, and the last time I made one was like 2010. I got lots of asspats and realized it was dumb.

You can always learn to steal without getting caught, it's not hard at all, so that solves your temporary lack of food problem. if you're homeless with nothing to do, you can apply at jobs. Libraries are open from like 7am to 9-10pm, and they have air conditioning and usually a water fountain. Stick around there. Hope it turns out well for you also.

Well the studio lives up to its reputation - absolutely. I worked at Insomniac NC, where we made Ratchet & Clank games. The talent there was very senior and inspiring to hang around. Really smart and witty people - and that makes the studio awesome, aside from the fact that they take care of you pretty well if anything happens.

My personal experience there was kind of fucked over by the onset of schizophrenia though so the details of my story there was one of survival and coping with a shit load of bricks life handed to me. Wish that didn't have to happen.

I have drepession and anxiety... married 5 years ago and still take jobs I don´t like at all...
but never give up about my art skills...
some friend (a really nice chick) is psychologist and told me 6 years ago:
¨Some mental diseases like depression don´t go away in years... so, you need to learn to accept the way them working... and change your mind to transform the bad about them to potential, if you feels really bad, draw it, if you feel locked, paint it, if you want to die, draw more and more, change the way your mind work, without pills, because you have the solution of your own problems, learn to listen your body, soul and mind¨
>>
>>2553079

>>2553192
Thanks and yes, I promote my stuff and apply to jobs regularly, haven't in a while though because I can't move yet and there are no art jobs here. Freelance is hard to get in without prior studio experience and connections + a great portfolio.

>>2553182
I have depression and anxiety, married recently and take jobs I don't like because I can't get any others. I'll probably never stop doing art, but I'm pretty hopeless about it becoming a career, even if I improve in the next few years.
Thanks for the tips, I tend to agree with it, sometimes there's no way of curing it because it's so deeply ingrained in your personality, so you just have to learn to work with it.

>>
>>2553586
That is self-destructive thinking. You won't achieve the perfect loli with that. I know how does that feel anon, I wanted to learn quick sketching so I could animate my stuff, but you can't just skip the basics anon (or well, you can, but you will become a dobson or shadman), you can't just try to run without know how to walk. You wont achieve what you want that way. I can see several mistakes on those drawings, and I bet you too.

You can do it anon, but not if you half-ass stuff.

Hopefully we see some dodson, betty edward or loomis in that chart next month.
>>

Don't listen to these memers. They're trying to corrupt you. Keep drawing loli and perfect them. I'll be waiting for you!
>>
>>2553691
You can't.
Trying to perfect and rendering something based on broken anatomy is just polishing a turd.

I'm serious anon, don't just ignore this advise, I know that tips and lectures usually are usually something people ignore after 5 minutes, but this is relevant to your interests Anon. Is not something you should ignore, or that you even can if you really want to create something that isn't crap. Please anon.

>deeply ingrained in your personality.

that there might be a learned pattern of thought. A habitual depression. You deny yourself full access to life for some reason, guilt, indignation, whatever... Stop the pattern gradually by making the effort to be open to life, as it is, and not letting your past and your opinions get in your way.
>>
>>2554638
agree, it might sound weird, but depression is pretty comfy once you get used to it. It's like wearing noise-cancelling headphones at all times. Not saying that's the way to be, but I understand why people get used to it.

>>2554629

>>2554638
There are deeper reasons for this which I cannot change and it has nothing to do with the past. And I get you, but the whole point of depression is that it makes you unable to see positives in your life. "Life as it is" is just plain boring and I don't have any interest in it, nothing really excites me or makes me happy in the long term.

Thanks, just finnish tho. Getting used indeed, managed to study techniques and medium itself for few weeks now. Not really surprised by your reaction, I'm bit lost with it.

I'm heavily influenced by Akseli Gallen-Kallela, but still trying to find the balance and right topics. On the same time meh'ness itself is okay, because I'm looking for that 100 years of independent melancholia, mixed with modern influences.

Pic related, work of his.

>>2547966
when did you start studying? There's clearly progress but it could've been better, depending on when you got serious.

>>2547998
Love your style when it's not girls. Your girls are bordering on anime and they look really generic. Stop thinking with your dick and keep studying. What do you want to do professionally? The speedpaints are ugly and you should stop doing them. Speed comes with practice, so focus on making good pieces for now.

>>2547998
wut. Did you draw at all? You got worse

>>2548297
Are you a gril or gay? Your sketches are really nice and all but you have the same style as 90% of female teenage artists

Not bad! That first alien thing from now looks nice, but you need to work a lot more on your values. I suggest you do lots of master studies in greyscale.

Sounds like you have some mental health issues. If possible, you should seek help for that, since that can really make a huge difference when it comes to motivation/ability to concentrate.

Assuming that that's not an option or doesn't help enough to solve your issues, here's some suggestions:
Many people do really well with a set schedule. Start with something easy like 20 minutes a day (even a little bit is better than nothing!), then one you are able to keep up with that for a while increase the time, and so on.

Alternatively, if time limits sound scary to you could just make it a rule that you have to draw every day, no matter how much or how little.
If you know you only have to do this for 5 minutes it becomes a lot easier to find the motivation to get started, and once you're drawing you probably won't actually stop again right away. That worked really well for me personally despite depression etc.

I also keep a list with things I want to draw - whenever I have an idea for a finished piece, or notice something I need to work on/want to do studies of/etc I write it down on a list I keep in my sketchbook.
Then once I sit down to draw I can look at that list if I can't think of anything better, that way I avoid just staring at an empty piece of paper for half an hour.

No, I think it does look sharp on the edges of the forms, but "in" them, the fade to darker values is excessively soft. It's cool, your opinion. It what worked for me. I don't think I've become "transcended" by any means. I was dealing with addiction and it just helped me remove it, it just made me more stable IMO. It MAY work for you, or not. After all everyone's personality differs and this will affect interaction with any substance(s). Regardless of the substance, it was still me who took the call to take steps to eliminate my depression, acid just helped speed up the process. There are research to back this up. It's always up to the potential user to weigh in the risk and benefits of using the substance.

They say talent isn't real, but I look at the first few pictures in each of these and I can already tell if they are going to end up looking great or not! Makes me feel down on myself too, but seems like there is something even if it is only a certain style that makes you want to draw/practice more that results in people who use it turning out to be better artists ultimately.
>>
>>2568111
When people asked Michelangelo about his being a genius, he only told these people that they didn't consider the amount of arduous effort he puts into his craftsmanship.
So Anon, I don't believe in talent because it implies an innate quality. Before I mastered any of the things I've mastered in the past--like playing spy in Team Fortress 2 for example--I started as complete and utter shit. It took me 250 hours to get to where I am now. Some experts theorize it took great masters like Michelangelo, Beethoven, and Shakespeare over 10 thousand hours of practice to git gud. But don't let that figure get you down! Devote yourself entirely to the task with reverence and love for yourself and your project and you might git gud even sooner! Be excited anon and don't let anything bother you or get you down!

I just looked at him on Deviant Art and while his stuff is obviously better you can still see something is off. Like he is missing that undefinable thing that makes great art. I donno.

i kind of get what you mean. like when you can tell an artist has good creativity even though they don't have the skills to pull it off
>>
>>2570518
Yeah they have "potential".

I'd like to make a compilation that goes way back, but all my work is traditional and scattered everywhere. Here's my progress in the past year though.

mistakenly believed I made progress when in reality started at the bottom and still at the bottom. Here's hoping I have better progress at the end of summer.
Most of my drawings are in my sketchbook which I can't find atm, but they're not much better desu

thanks for being part of the journey /ic/

You started at the same time I did and I think we both made it reasonably far. At least you're into color and value.

You improved maiboi, try fitting in at least 6 hours a day.

Lot's of drawing, quit my job and doing 6-8 hours a day. I very rarely take any advice from anyone on /ic though, that probably helps alot.

Good eye, It's a layout study I did from his PDF books, I'm having alot of success with his methods/reference.

Lots of Bridgman, I started with loomis meme but I never really got into it. I never really read the text either, just dissected the drawings, and I don't ever "finish" them. I just dive into them to find what I want for my study session.

I really love anatomy sketches by masters though, I found that I learn alot more from studying figure drawings then paintings/book text. I often went to this blog for them: http://figureprof.blogspot.com/2014/10/shane-wolf.html
>>
>>2570729
T-thanks anon, I'll try 6 hours a day in hopes of reaching your level soonish. I have Bridgman too, just getting grips with his stuff. Would you be up for skyping or smth to share progress?

Sure thing, I got a discord server that I use to share images with a friend of mine. I have no artist buddies so he critiques my stuff.

Take in mind I'm still novice in most areas. I know nothing when it comes to a clothed/coloured/shaded figure.

Sick, just joined anon hope you don't mind. Hopefully we can motivate each other, happy drawing
