>>2527957
>>2527958
Mind you, this is 20 X 15. It's a big fucker. My problem with doing realistic and "talented" styles is it's a lot like the movies and the video game industry. People aren't willing to try to accept stylized art. In those mediums you'll hear criticism like "It has bad graphics" or "That's not possible in real life". People are lazy, they want to get lost in something without any effort of thought. I draw in this style because it's fun and unique. I don't want to undermine great artists who work hard. and I am amature at best. This is my hobby. But if I want realism. I'll take a photo with my phone.

>>2528074
Yeah i was intrigued until he posted this, i remember it too.
Be gentle. Just started drawing again. Stopped for a while because life was kind of fucked up, but things are better and getting back into it.
Tips? Thoughts? I used ref material for this since I didn't know how to do wings.
Not quite finished obviously.
>>2530984
You aren't good enough to draw straight forward, you need more construction and measuring.
Try sketching the light gesture first to connect the individual parts of your drawing, then make sure the distance between her ribcage/pelvis (1 cranium), the length of her arm (2+2 craniums) etc. are correct.
Tutorials by Stan Prokopenko, Sycra Yasin or good old Loomis are a good start.
>>2530984
That's pretty cool, man. Keep it up and you could really git gud.
>>2531014
Also, I did have a sketch that I started out with, but which is mostly erased now. I start with some measures of lines, then sketch some basic shapes and work from there. But I need to be more exacting at that stage. Maybe I rush? How can I get more accurate at that stage?
>>2531038
The principle we should always follow is to go from simple to complex - don't draw anatomy if the proportions are off, don't bother with hair if you struggle with drawing head etc.
And sorry for overlooking the "be gentle" part, I was too harsh - you definitely have a potential. Big thumbs up for taking it so well.
>>2531043
Your figure is pretty stiff, you need to loosen up. Take a soft pencil (preferably with claw grip) and draw sloooowly, almost not lifting the pencil off the paper. Think of the volume and capture only what's essential on the pose, with only few lines.
If you still struggle, look up "gesture drawing" tutorials, there are plenty.
With the shapes, remember head - ribcage - pelvis and the relationship between them, they're like beads on a string called spine.
>>2531049
Most definitely , thanks for the input. About a year ago I would have gotten extremely butt hurt , but my mentality has changed. Hard to explain. It's like on the one hand im starting to taking drawing more seriously as a whole, whereas before I took each individual drawing WAY too seriously. If I've learned anything on this board it's draw, draw, and draw some more. So I don't get too hung up, since I know I've got the rest of my life to draw.
>>2531066
It's funny because the pose is based on another ref I used, one by Albrecht Durer . ...really it's an archetypal sort of pose, the whole birth of Venus sort of thing. She is a little stiff, though. I think I captured her having her weight shifted to one side, which is what I wanted. I actually did that so it wouldn't look too stiff or rigid. But I guess I need to work on the flow a bit . Thanks again!
>>2531049
>>2531066
So here is what I'm also doing ....same anon with the winged figure. I have a Burne Hogarth book that I'm studying and I'm trying to do poses, perspectives, and parts of anatomy I'm not used to , like the back and legs.
Tips?
>>2531095
Critical anon here. Besides already mentioned basic forms and flow, the problem here is that you lost track of the whole picture and only focused on individual parts. Try to see the whole thing and don't get too caught up in detail, it the problem prevails, draw smaller.
Another thing is the simple → comples principle. You're already studying anatomy, but your ribcage and pelvis are the wrong size and in the wrong position. Start simple. (link below)
The final tip would be to only copy when you're drawing from life. If you're drawing from a flat reference (book, photo), it's better to just sketch the pose and look into the book for advice, but copying doesn't help much, because there is no 3D volume.

Studying from Hogarth's anatomy and hands, while referencing Richer's plates(real life too ofc) has been the best combo for me.
I think Hogarth's work is a little exaggerated, probably intentionally, so the muscle volumes can stand out.
>>2532453
It's definitely exaggerated. At times a little too much, since I want to see how certain portions of anatomy look naturally (on the surface). But its still awesome to learn what's happening mechanically , muscle and bones. I think some artist don't really need too much knowledge of anatomy to excel, since they naturally can draw what they see. Other artist excel by leaps and bounds once they know anatomy in more detail. I think I'm kind of in between.
>>2530937
>>2530938
I love your style, it's very calm and extravagant. Do you have a blog or anything?
>>2530937
>>2530938
What mediums do you use? I rarely use colors unless I'm doing digital, and I'd really like to change that. I can see that a lot of this is from imagination (something I really need to work on) and I wanted to know what your process is.
>>2532487
>I think some artists don't really need too much knowledge of anatomy to excel
I think so too, whatever works for you right? If a picture you made is finished in your eyes, then it probably is.
Even Frazetta wasn't 100% on point with proportion either, many times. See the hands? http://frankfrazetta.org/images/QMan_FF_Legacy_561_Victorious.jpg
But i won't tell you to "drop-out" either, generally you want some knowledge on how things work so you don't get frustrated, if you do, the axniety comes in, then you procrastinate. anyway best of luck

I like drawing guns.
>>2535561
Drawing guns is fun, but it seems like you'd benefit from moving your guns more in perspective rather than flat views, and playing with less square glock-ey designs. Check out a Beretta or something with some intricacy to the silhouette, and some Scott Robertson for mechanical perspective, I think you'll dig it.
>>2535577
I was trying to go for a "futuristic" CZ type of handgun, hence the blockiness.
I get a bit of tunnel vision whenever I draw, which leads to some fucked up perspectives, as can be seen here.
Its especially notable with the bottle, the rear sights on the revolver are misaligned to the rest of the gun, and the carbine seems to have bent itself.
>>2535561
that gun is kinda impractical, best design follows function.
there are too many sharp edges for that thing to get held up on (holstering ect)
have a look at USA army contracts for their handguns weapon ect, they always choose the most basic tech, because it has fewer things that can go wrong. and they normally look good (beretta ect).
your handgun design looks like a cross between the frame of a glock, the wrist protector of a degal and the nose of a 5'7 but with an impractcal sharp edge on the bottom front of the lower frame.
also by the looks of the mag the caliber does not seem to be that large of a round, the wrist protector is not really needed with small force rounds and would just get in the way.
picture yourself using that over another hand gun, guns are life and death devicesm you want function OVER pretty form.
but normally as i said earlier , great function almost always sets trends for what is considered "pretty".
take the original Ak-47.
fucking ugly gun when first milled, but well loved and now deemed one of the best looking A-rifles in the world.
just always thing function and the form will work itself out.
>>2535591

The bottom one is just a tube with human legs and he's about to fall over. Not wanting to be mean but yeah, do some studies of dinos in motion, or crocs, ostriches, etc, try get a sense for the weight, and then look into the anatomy for the legs. Those wouldn't hold him up at all, you have the knee on the front of the one nearest to us, and on the back on the further one, and the near leg looks like it's inside the body rather than on the side.
Keep it up though, dinosaurs are cool and your rendering is pretty nice.

Mark making is the method of using some kind of a stroke/symbol/pattern.
