the only thing i don't like are those purple stars (don't really fit the motive) and the overall lack of background.

Im thinking of painting a daki design on a new board since my current board is on its last leg,

Personally would like to see more of the gold and the seashell blue worked in to make colors pop more

Nah, it's fine anon. It's a complex design, and adding a background would just make it cluttered.

Yeah, stars should have been gold.

Looks visually interesting from far away, but the closer you get, the less interesting it becomes.

you are right in stating that a background would make it cluttered, but plain black is never a good choice in background colour.
