he was on the cutting edge of art for decades, invented cubism, inspired countless artists, was a pillar of the modernist era, was alive through and participated in many different movements, and was perhaps the most prolific artist ever.
>>
>>2389323
His minimalistic mindset is ruling the current design scene.
>>
>>2389328
picasso wasn't a minimalist. why not blame, I dunno, someone actually associated with minimalism?
>>
>>2389326
Cubism is shit though.

the thing about art history and fame is that your personal tastes don't have any affect on it. OP asked why picasso was famous, not whether you like him.
>>
>>2389333
Nice trips, but even through it's not your thing, it inspired a new genre of art.

this, essentially. you need to remember that the artistic community back then was a lot smaller and a lot of the famous artists from that period all knew each other and hung out to share ideas. modernism (as an era beginning with impressionism) was a period when artists kept trying to reinvent art and push the boundaries. the dude was really good at that and other artists thought he was onto something. if you look at his early stuff, he was obviously very skilled at academic art until he got bored and said fuck it. such was the trend.

but if you want to know why he's literally famous, it's because the museums said so.

peoples trying to judge fine arts and art the same way

him being an introduction to art for most peoples
