You need to properly sell out.

You think there's a market for work with high technical value on the internet? Nope, you will need plenty of skill, but beyond a certain point it won't make a difference in the eyes of your audience.

You need to have an appeal. Fanart is always the easiest, because so long as the technique looks ok and the referenced media is popular enough, you will get attention. People will like your art because they recognize it, and that's rewarding.

You can also cheapen out to an aesthetic. Like the Deviant DestinyBlue. who draws sad girls with "deep messages" on neon palettes. Now they don't actually have a patreon, but if they opened one, they'd certainly rack in lots of money.

Porn is a great option, there's so many porn patreons out there and some niche ones just receive shittons of money. I recall I have a friend that draws furry porn (and he doesn't have any semblance of impressive skill) and was making decent bucks in commissions.
