Bernie Wrightson is unsurpassed in my book
Meant to put this in the OP, my absolute favourite
Nicolas Delort is also great, I can't find some of the higher res drawing of his though

details
There was a drawing by the same artist who made this study of a sitting woman with cloth wrapped around her waist and her arms above her head, can't find it
>>2318448
damn, so many details
how the fuck someone gets that consistent line textures
>>2318474
Can't link to it now since I'm on my phone but I've seen him block in the black ink then go back in with white in a dip pen

Those studies were done by Alphonse Mucha.

Pretty retarded painting to be honest family.

Oh baby.
>>2318862
She's trapped in a prison cell during a flood, and regardless the image isn't depicting her under threat from the water. She died of tuberculosis.
Study art history a little.
> Pretty retarded
> Uses the term "family"
>>2318854
With that level of draftsmanship, yes. The message here is fundamentals first before style.
>>2318847
Thread's supposed to be what inspires you artistically, not what inspires you to wank your little peepee you fucking weeaboo.
>>2318870
Yes I'm aware of i/c's use of buzzwords and stock phrases over actual knowledge.
>>2318867
>Study art history a little.
The life of a random russian princess has very little to do with the history of art, you are more likely to know about her through image search -> reading the wikipedia article rather than having heard any art lesson featuring her or the minor russian artist who portrayed her in that painting.
Not even the guy you're replying to desu senpai.

Odd how he gets the body right, and properly shows volume, but the face is a cheap duckface.

>>2318903
Truly inspirational.
>>2318904
But I like it. Not looking for responses.
>>2318878
The painting has to do with the history of art though dingus. You learn the story through exposure to it, unless you literally are just "hurr look at da pretty pictures" and nothing else.
Also, if you understand being able to google and discern the facts about an image, there's no reason to make up some dismissive speculative nonsense about it's narrative.
>Art lesson
Sure, if you just wait around for others to teach you about art I guess that's true.
TL;DR Defending ignorance. Also a weeaboo.
>>2318906
Oh how I hate chromatic abberation.
Ok lets see what happening in this thread
>old engravings (implying you actually will be inspired by those limitied drawings)
>anime waifus
Ok ic never change.
I'm on a J.C. Leyendecker high.
Shame. I liked the high quality line drawings. Then for some reason some faggot needs to spam his favorite animuh.
>>2318978
why does it bother you when someone is inspired by animu?
i like how mike paints.
>>2319048
mike is cool
>>2319052
you better not be mike... but yes his color choices are nice.
>>2319079
>I don't care if somebody is inspired by anime but they got no place next to those line drawings and sources of inspiration wasn't the subject. Those drawings show a great amount of skill and how you can tell a lot a lot with simple means. While the animu is over polished and made with less skill. Not to mention stuff like image composition.
not letting you run away.
>>2318887
Not the op who posted that but I think that kind of deliberate style juxtaposition is what makes an otherwise bland piece interesting, not that this is one is the best example of it but yeah. Similar thing could be said about this one too, the artist just chose a different way to push it >>2318876 Whether either of those is up to taste is up to you though and of course /ic/ is above the animuhs.
>>2319101
The poster probably just noticed the thread title after posting.

I have a copy of Frankenstein with Bernie Wrightson's illos. I think in the intro it mentions that some of them took him a whole month or some shit. The book has at least 20 illustrations almost as detailed as that one.
>>2324192
Well, actually, the whole book took him 7 years in between other jobs, so who knows how long each one took.
>>2318862

I know it's based on a manga, but the TekkonKinkreet film adaptation looks as good as the concept art.

>>2330251
The movie is better than the comic, I'd say. The writing and themes in the comic are really naive, and they pushed some of that aside for the film. Plus, the animation is bootiful.

His Tron stuff looks a lot better imo.
>>2331425
>>2331286
Completely disagree. He makes use of shape and light in such a way, that makes his work look much more detailed than it actually is. His brush economy is amazing.
Comparing it to a PS filter is pretty undermining.
>>2331604
I do see what he means, though. I've seen photos gone through filters that have a similar look to them as his train station piece. It's reminiscent.
Not to try and shit-talk the skill required to do it, though, and of course even if you were to put a photo through the filter lighting and composition is still important.

>>2318848
holy shit, who is this?
>>2318918
Everything about Leyendeckers work is so masterly done, but in some pieces his color harmonies are just horrible.
What a fantastic thread. We should make way more of these.
>>2335487
Which pieces? I think he usually has strong colour. Maybe you are mistaking limits of printing technology at the time? Often they would print only one or maybe a couple colours because of limits in technology or to save money. So he would have to paint with very limited hues. All the illustrators of the time dealt with that. Here's a Cornwell that only uses orange: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y141/igallo/DeanCornwell.jpg
attalllog just doesn't give a fuck
>>2335490
I'm not super familiar with Leyendeckers work, so i dont have any examples, it's just something i've sometimes noticed when looking at his work. I think there are some problems with the one i originally replied to tho, like her skin for example, it's completely dead and boring, and the use of orange clues here and there comes off as a bit tacky and hastily done. But printing technology hadn't even crossed my mind, and it's obviously the reason why. Now i can appreciate his work way more.
>>2335994
reproduction issues. leyen is was/is an absolute master of every nuance.
>>2335998
I believe you. But i can't really decide before i've actually seen some irl. Still one of the artist im learning the most from. He is a DREAM to study.
