Do the rocks convey or betray the perspective?
>>
>>2297771
Looks good to me. They get smaller and more abundant as they go back, which adds to the illusion of perspective. They look fine, but I'm no expert.
>>
>>2297771
>>2297775
Oh, on second thought. I just looked at where the guy was in relation to the girl. The way the rocks are near the guy is probably not correct. They might be too small and abundant where he's stepping. Make the transition from large and broken up, to small and abundant much broader.

you're linking the wrong post, tard.

A little boring and generic, but still not that bad. The lightsaber looks a bit thin in the thumbnail and I think the eyes would reflect the red of it. Keep working on this image and try to get the value read a bit clearer--can you get some darker accents or areas? Group values better?

>>2297971
His hand (the lower one) looks all kinds of fucked up. Just redo it entirely.

Otherwise it's not bad. I would add more atmospheric perspective to really push the depth and also get a bit more separation between him and the background.

>>2297980
Resize your image next time to something less than 1k pixels on the long side. The gestures are okay but would be better if you simplified more effectively. Look for longer lines of action that run through the whole pose and figure out if you can emphasize the entire action better.

>>2297809
The other anon is right--the storytelling here is bad and the image is boring. You should have done more thumbnails initially. It's painted well, just not well conceived. Honestly it would probably be a stronger image if you removed the girl entirely, and then had the creepy dude just on his own and have him looking down at the fish and have the fire in front of him. Or instead maybe put that creepy fish dude much farther in the distance. Right now the relationship between them and the composition just doesn't feel quite right.

This is nice but is super flat. It feels like paper cutouts you put there. Woulda been nice if you did a simple 1point perspective here and got some more depth to things.
>>

I think that's more of a stylistic choice because he shows a good handle on light. I think it'd still keep the cutout feel defined by the drawing while giving a better sense of form and readability with some bounce light though.

>>2298515
Ah yes, I remember seeing this in previous draw threads, looks real good! I like the kind of flat look everything has. My only concern is that the entire image is too dark, if you look at the thumbnail, nothing is clear. You could add a curves layer over top of everything to make it a little better.

You don't seem to struggle with perspective too much, but I'll point this out anyway: The horizon is always gonna be at the "horizon line". Their poses are more or less identical, so in this case her knees are "eye level" (on the horizon line) and so should his bee if they are the same height.

>>
>>2298708
also not that i've never taken any classes art related whatsoever

any tips to improve shading and such also texture?
>>
>>2298708
So if that's coal. Apart from the fact that you painted it with a soft brush which betrays the roughness of coal, it's not awful. And the reason it's not awful is because coal is black, therefore when you shade coal or highlight it, the highlights are still going to be very dark. A lot of new artists think in order to shade something it must always go from 1 to 10 on the value scale. Not the case. So in this simple drawing of a piece of coal you have shown restraint which is respectable. Now: Ditch that shit soft brush and use a harder one. Don't rely too much on airbrushing. It's amateur. And remember to have fun!
>>
>>2298714
>>2298708
Also, texture is not something you should be worrying about right now. Practice more with color and light and how they interact.

Your drawings don't have a back side to them, they look like engravings. Try drawing transparently and imagine how the object would look while turning. Include lots of lost and found lines and overlapping lines. As soon as the eye sees a T shape it instantly reads it as an overlap.

>>2298942

Carry on drawing them badly then.
>>
>>2298921
You realize the real tits are bigger, right? They were actually made smaller in the drawing!
>>
>>2298961

Difference is the tits in the photo actually have mass and are affected by gravity, not some spherical giant orbs attached to her chest.
People who draw giant tits for the sake of giant tits always seem to draw them like they got implants. The fact that the guy seems to be too busy getting butthurt and defensive over some abrasiveness than actually considering it as critique doesn't help.
>>
>>2298962
There's only one here who is butt-hurt and that's the one who is for no apparent reason throwing a fit and bursting a vein over a drawing that is neither photo realistic nor a masterpiece but still nice. I'm guessing that person is you since I hope people are not commonly that autistic..

Half of this >>2298921 could had been fitting as a critique to the picture initially but it's also too full of butthurt and most likely the same anon for that reason.

Nobody is impressed by shitposting. This is an anon board and any shitstick can spam comments, pretending to be an authority on fucks know what.
>>
>>2298967
>but still nice.

The drawing wasn't that good, I'm sorry, and calling people who said someone's (I'm presuming your) shit is shit doesn't magically make them angry at you or angry at all.
The anatomy is bad, she has no sign of ribs (besides that awful shape you inserted between her tits indicated with a LIGHTER value for god knows what reason), the painting is some of the worst I've seen on this board outside the beginner thread and looks like he slapped it on in literally sections with zero consideration. The linework is pretty shoddy. The lighting is unevenly applied. The values are shit. The size of the boobs, while feasible, just make it look like really bad smut because there was zero consideration to the actual weight of them and the failings of the actual painting and values gives it a lack of any real form and makes them look worse.

I'm going to stop arguing with you because you're either really dedicated to sucking this guy's dick or you're really dedicated to defending your own work and you're not going to listen to anybody, in which case it's a wonder why you bothered posting on a critique board. I don't fucking care if you think I'm being "too mean", I'm not shitposting, I'm not angry. I'm telling you/him what looks bad because it looks bad. If it looks good to you/him, that's cool, he can draw whatever he wants, but he shouldn't put it out there for opinions if he doesn't want someone's fucking opinion.

No, this is far beyond art critique. It's someone being really butthurt about something.

Stop being so fucking defensive, and stop taking people calling your art shit - especially if they give reasons they think so - like they're somehow mad at you. You're seriously in the wrong fucking place if you can't take a bit of criticism.

Polishing, what do you think?
>>
>>2299027
this is a boring pic, you should only polish interesting pieces.
>>
>>2298952

You don't need to trace, you need to learn anatomy.
Look at how proportionally big this woman is to her breasts. You kept the size of the breasts and roughly the size of the head/neck, and you gave her awfully thin and short arms, you broke her rib cage to the point it is as thick as her legs. You kinda kept the size of the hips, but you stretched her torso so much it's bizarrely long

Also, look at the model, look at how her breasts sag. Their lines almost conect in the middle, way higher than the bottom of the breasts, and than look at your drawing, and how you tried to make the breasts stiff, conecting them to the stomach.

Stop crying and go learn how to draw.

>>2298961
Depends on how you resize the drawing, but one thing we can say for sure he made one tit smaller, yes.

>>2298967
>a drawing that is neither photo realistic nor a masterpiece but still nice.

That drawing is far from nice. Even his line control is beginner level, and if you can't see that, you don't know what you are talking about, so please stop shittalking.

I'm pretty mediocre with my art right now, so take this observation with a grain of salt. You seem to be losing the volume of the face. I'm not sure if I was using the right term there, but the face is looking very flat. Besides that mouth and nose (which I think look pretty good) the rest of the face looks like its flat on a sheet or something. If it's not a stylistic choice I think a more pronounced core shadow could help maybe? Like a ball or something.
>>
>>2299135
you forgot to quote
>>
>>2299127
sorry to say this, but that picture really is boring.

Nothing detailed or exciting enough to draw or lead the eye, I feel like the eyes should be the focal point, but they're just flat and ugly (not sure if you rendered them yet or not). The bright light across the right side of her cheekbone screams for attention but is very plain to look at and leaves me wanting more.

Lighting is poorly executed as well, make sure to control your edges and don't be afraid to use a hard brush. This piece seems like it wants to be a portrait but the concrete ceiling or whatever that is doesnt really serve any purpose other than to further unbalance the image.
How is she holding that lightsaber? Based on the angle of the "blade" she's holding it close to her waist, but pointed upward which seems stiff and unnatural.

Sharpen and render the eyes, change the angle of the blade, remove the concrete, harden up some of your edges where the shadow falls on her face, soften that harsh highlight (unless you want her cheek to be the focus of the piece...) finish rendering her hood

People who strive for originality at the cost of everything else tend to produce complete fucking garbage.
We've got this beautiful world all around us filled with things to observe and draw and some stupid cunts are just obsessed with doing something 'unique' because you seem to be terrified of the idea of doing something someone else has done before.

The worst part is half the 'original' faggots tend to fit some stupid genre of remarkably similar shit.

I wanted to practice painting shiny things in this picture and I'm not good at implying detail with painterly strokes so I kindof have to paint everything with the same quality. So yeah. Hard round brush. Patience is a virtue.

THe sand was super simple. Because the sand is wet, that means it's shiny, and since it's all flat that means it's going to evenly reflect the sky color. THUS no matter what color I paint the sand, its' the reflection of the zombie guy that sells the reflective quality. Since reflections are always darker than what they're reflecting, I simply copied the zombie guy layer, flipped it, darkened it and then made it a clipping mask over the sand layer which I had previously blocked in. THen I just made another layer over the zombie guy's reflection and manually painted in the varying distortions.

I spend 90% of my time just copying pictures. To me it's a lot like cooking, I copy recipes that I like to make and develop a repertoire of dishes I can prepare. Sure they're not original, but who cares? Plus in the process of copying I learn skill sets that allow me to mix and match techniques with the things that I like, at which point I'm making things that are both original and high quality.

The need to be 'original' is sooo fucking overblown in the art world. I wouldn't even worry about that until one has damn near mastered fundamentals

I'm not that op but holy shit, studies are a thing you're allowed to post here.Provide help or move along like literally everybody else.
I do agree that certain proportions are off-- the largest being the width of the shoulders and size of the ribcage. Something that could help is by paying more attention to angles and how they relate to each other. That's what I've been doing and it has been successful. Sorta in the same way you can use angles in math to find the approximate length of a triangle's sides. Break her down into angles and it should make studies more palatable.

Lads, I am really fucking salty right now. There was this digital art competition in my country for 14-18 y/o and these are the results. There were really good prizes (tablets, loudspeakers etc), which is why I also entered. I was pretty sure that I would at least get highlighted (I got highlighted last year and received third place two years ago).

I can understand the 1st and the 2nd place, they were pretty clever and original. The third one, the first image in the second row and the first image in the third row are a mystery to me, how are they better than any of the submitted pictures that didn't get any awards?
What was considered in the judging process was: the idea and originality, artistic standards, how well a picture correlated with the theme, using digital techniques well.

Am I delusional? Am I just angry that my painting didn't get an award? Please respond.
>>
>>2300185
To be honest they're all pretty bad. Looks like they value the idea and how closely it fits the theme more than the technical skill used, but as I said before they all are fairly poorly conceived in my opinion and so there's not that large a gap between some of the ones that didn't get mention and those that did.

Also you should learn to not give too many shits about competitions. Maybe the prizes are nice, but in terms of actual value or recognition most are very meaningless.

There's never been any art or creative field competition I've seen that didn't end in results like these and a ton of people scratching their heads. Go look at the results of any contest on DA. Best not to even bother with them, I say.

Yes, they're all pretty bad, not going to argue with that. I still think that at least a few of the highlighted paintings are unreasonably put there.
I usually don't participate in competitions, but I was hoping to get a free tablet or something. shitsux desu tbqh

Tõsi, aga ikkagi. Ilma mingi ideeta MS Paintis tehtud töö on märkimist väärt (eriti võrreldes parempoolsete piltidega)? Mida kuradit?
Üle 18 aastate hulgas oli paar päris normaalset tööd.

Find the shapes, simplify them, establish their base values, and refine the edges...

http://androidarts.com/art_tut.htm#light_stuff
is pretty basic and easy to read, you have to plan your light sources position respect the object of your painting, doing a map of it might help you to think about it, right now, every part has his own independent light source, it's too dark and those "snakes" are in light inside the girl's shadow zones, so it's even more random

you can break rules with purpose, not without

Looks like it could be cool, but the way it is I cant tell what's going on. Define the shapes: finish the fisherman and give that monster-thing some structure. It's merely a sketch, there's not much to critique.
>>
>>2300385
Yes, I know you're a beginner. I'm asking you why you're sticking with shit method when the results aren't good (even for a beginner), and when there's simpler and easier ones being pointed out all the time.
>>
>>2300413
From a distance the values look great, but when I look closer it looks there are many problems with the structure of the face. The shape of the nose seems overly simplified, and there's no midtones to communicate the shape of the nostrils. The eye looks wonky, if this is real media it's probably too late to revisit the line work, but if this is digital then I say do it. Also the chin looks too far forward, I'd have to see the source to say so confidently.

I think what you need to do to improve is work on micro adjustments to your line work in the earlier stages. Compare the angles and positions of your shapes against multiple reference points all over the picture; beyond that trust your eyes, take a step back and get a feel for what looks off and try to ask yourself what it is you're missing. Take pictures of your work, hold it up to the mirror to see it from different perspectives. With better line work the overall composition would go from average to outstanding

That's the thing about drawing faces, a hair's breadth incorrect placement of a line can make it look uncanny. Portraits are unforgiving

heh, maybe. I just used a basic brush with that last one. This one I used one with less flow I think.

>>2300401
>you don't even have blended yet

last thread I had someone freak out on me because I used a brush with opacity. So I did for fun try to not use anything. I sort of liked the retro effect.

But no matter what I do I'll get people who for some reason want to feel big by shitposting. So if people can't do a proper critique I see no other option than to dismiss them as properly being autistic retarded with an art aspect.
>>
>>2299286
the picture isnt really edgy anyway
>>
>>2300498
Unfinished? And lack of composition. It reads terribly. Think of how the elements will guide the eye, dont just pop things out of nowhere.
>>
>>2300499

That one looks considerably better than your last two attempts.
>>
>>2300505
I agree. Still full of flaws but I wasn't so focused on the reference this time and more about lining the shapes up and the flow of the drawing (painting?). That brush type might also have helped. Time for a break I guess.
>>
>>2300504
It's still barely halfway done - and then the background needs to be drawn. I feel like I need to fill in every spot with detail to make it not look "boring", but as for the composition, I was hoping that all the eyes staring you down would lead up to the top. Thanks for the critique m8
>>
>>2299027
I feel like her face would have much more red glow on it. its a lightsaber after all.
>>
>>2300499
If I told you your brushwork doesn't convey direction, form or mass, would you know what it meant and take it to heart?
>>
>>2300529
you want me to "mold" the shape? I'll keep it in mind.

If I had to give a reason to why I didn't it could had been because the brushes I've been using are pressure sensitive linked to their brush size. So if I just drew normally I would had ended up drawing outside the lines as the brush started growing. Guess I was lazy and just adapted. I really just wanted to practice picking the right contrasts.

That is of course assuming that was what you meant.
>>
>>2300499
Nobody shitposted and we told you many way to get better but you keep drawing the way you do. What the point of posting here if you don't listen?

Does the arm holding the glass look ok? It keeps looking off to me, I think I got it now but I want a second opinion.
>>
>>2300550

The body is facing toward the viewer, why the arm is more situated from the side. Foreshorten the arm and have the drink coming to the viewer, not perpendicular to them.

nice image for a story. The left of the two top colored houses, the one that is open. It took more than one view to read the ground floor right. The shadows seems off.

>20.12.14

You started almost 1 year ago or are you just coloring it?
>>
>>2300591
thanks!. You are right with the house, I had to fix the shadows and forgot about that one. Will fix it. Also, it's a drawing I finished the past year and now I'm just coloring.
>>
>>2300541
Look at this example. This is someone using a simple execution and flat values, no soft edges, just like you... But do you see that his convey the shape of a nose, an eye, a mouth etc... You barely understand what's beneath the skin. That's okay, none of us did starting out, but that's where you begin, see?
You also seem to be struggling with photoshop or whatever software you're using. If you're letting the lack of functionality (or rather the comprehension of it in this case) hamper you and dictate your workflow, then maybe you need to focus on getting that straightened out before hoping for any substantial help here.
Have you read the sticky? It's really useful actually.
I highly recommend that you go to ctrlpaint.com/library and start with with digital painting 101, and you'll have Matt Kohr, a real competent digital artist and teacher, going through the basics and how to use the tools.

>>
>>2300628
Forgot to mention in the reply above. Guess you weren't talking about brush strokes. I see what you mean. I think it partly has to do with that I'm too reluctant to use big variations in the shade values that leads me to simplify it too much. I have compared some of my previous (speedpainting?) stuff to the sources after putting on a grey scale filter and the result was usually that my entire drawing was too white/didn't use anywhere the same ranges in values.
