This one feels weird. The faces have obviously been photo referenced - too high density of detail compared to the rest of the piece? Picking apart why something doesn't work for you is just a good exercise as picking apart things that really make ur dig hard

definitely not. however copying it in a very analytical way where you simplify every shape and reduce it into a primitive 3d object with the correct hue/value/temperature applied to every plane and correct edge sharpness connecting planes ontop of that... then yes.

i don't know they just seem very boring and lifeless both technically and creatively. there's just nothing there. this might sound overly harsh but to me they seem almost like those pencil celebrity copies girls post on instagram. there's nothing skillful or visionary in the paintings. the one with the couple has a hint of narrative, but it comes across as clumsy and not very eloquently portrayed (to me).

i don't think i can put it any better.

Yup I agree 100% with you that as soon as I saaw them I thought "these don't belong in this thread". It's hard to articulate what is wrong with them, they just scream bad taste. They are uninteresting, with bad colours and no artistic understanding of simplification or design.
