I've actually considered that sometimes. Have you tried looking at only clean art? It should help rule out the "I only like this because it's porn" exceptions. Then narrow it down to one of three main styles. Cutsey/chibi/toony, semi-cartoonish standard, or realistic. From there you can see which kinda of substyles like coloring does best.

I think the only thing you can really do is try to have a unique style that and good quality art.

I wouldn't worry about the style if you think it's too "creepy" or unsettling. CrookedTrees' art got so popular that he got quite a few copycats (such as Pigfish unless that was actually an alt). Though granted his was less realistic.

Actually, might be a good idea to check out his art if you want to see how someone else blends the show's style in a bit more, assuming you're interested in that. Another artist with uncanny art that comes to mind is sharpieboss but they're not quite as popular.

If you want to tone down how uncanny it is instead of play it to your advantage, you'd need to remove as many humanoid features as you can. Also I'd perhaps move Maud's nostrils a bit further apart to the sides to look less alien and more like an actual horse.

Slugbox is okay, but I feel like it's too stylized for my taste. I don't think s/he knows too much about fundamentals. InCase and Legoman are better at that, they understand human form. I like the work of some japanese gfur artists. Even if most of them are a muscle galore, some of them make nice poses/expressions/angles. Amakuchi can be a nice example.

What do you think of Jyoka or Sindoll? I know they are furry artists, their work is pretty good for the department they are in.

Apparently most porn artist have some involvement with furries at certain point.
Makes sense considering that furries is a fandom that widely accepts and encourages porn and various fetishes, giving liberties to artists to do pretty much anything that they want.
I remember some porn artist mentioning that he didn't find market drawing humans, but after he started drawing furries he had quite a following (forgot the name of the artist, I apologize).

Veramundis is impressive, I really love his style and designs. Sindoll is another one of my fav artists, he makes some rather attractive characters with wonderful clean lines.
I'm not that fond of Jyoka's work, but damn, he makes some hot stuff.

I can't really mention that I have -one- fav artist, most of them excel in one aspect or another (and usually being extremely bad in others). Personally I like the lightheartedness of Null-ghost and spookeedoo, and the rendering of darkgem's drawings, snowskau makes some pretty neat character designs, etc

Probably. I'm pretty much amazed at the good artists on Furaffinity. The most decent ones if not great are Miles, Wolfy Nail, and Bittenhard. A lot of good artists in a sea of fetish garbage (it really is just bad art but funded by people who need that certain fetish). I wouldn't mind drawing sexy anthros but I really don't want to come off as a furfag.

Oh yeah, Veramundis is my inspiration. He made me take painting seriously because I want to achieve his sense of lighting and gradation texturing he's got. Sindoll is great in the lines department even though it seems a lot of his characters are same faced. And Jyoka, well, I only mentioned him because of his new doujin that actually has decent anthromorphic creatures.

Sorry man, I don't know any of these guys. But for character design I really like Polywurmple's characters and their body shapes.

And yeah, coming off as a furfag isn't a good idea. An alternative would be simply not joining a furry site but having a tumblr or something where you happen to upload anthros every now and then, that usually works with artists that try to get away from their "roots" so to say.

Yeah, most of those artists make gfur stuff, so I don't really advise you to check them out if it grosses you out too much, excepting snowskau, I have a hunch that you'll like his stuff (search iratecactus tumblr in google).

Well, I feel accomplished.

For what it's worth, I can supply some trivia. Most of it should be correct. I'm actually also rather scientifically minded and grew up watching too much Animal Planet, where I learned some of this.

You could round out the head as a whole. Maybe you're crossing it with memories of the fluffy cheeks of the Warner LoonyToon style where they give Sylvester and rabbits wide fluffy cheeks. Maybe watch the Brother Bear movies.

I meant that maybe it resembles a cat to you because of the other styles imprinted on you if you grew up with it. Though realistically felines and rabbits don't have those features.

Real bears do tend to have a rounder face rather than a distinct forehead, but it does help it appear anthro and does seem to be a trend in some art.

It might also depend on the exact species like grizzly vs brown vs kodiak etc, so perhaps try to reference a specific one so you don't get mixed up.
