-Start will larger general shapes, work at a low - mid res to start.
-Don't subdivide too early on, or your sculpt will look blobby
-Clay Buildup, Snake move, move, and dam standard are probably the best brushes to use.
-Try using everything
-Make sure you turn on perspective
-use polygroups on areas you know you need to select a couple times. (Arms, Legs, Hands, Head) It saves a lot of time selecting
