A few months ago there were uploads of Kpop shows in 4K/60fps/HEVC/10bit now it's all back to low quality 1080p in stone-age codecs.

YouTube uploads of MVs are also still 1080p, meanwhile there's fucking Balkanpop MVs in 4K.

What happened? Has Korea lost it's technological edge? Did they decide to pull a Japan and keep stuck at the same technological level for the next 20 years? Or am I just looking in the wrong places?

I don't see a noticeable loss in quality here after downscaling, which implies there's no extra information in the original 4K.

On the other hand, you can clearly see a quality loss when downscaling to 1080p. For example, look at the 4 of clubs on the sofa.

It was kinda hard to find a frame containing small details, since most of the time the camera is moving and shit goes in and out of focus. If anyone can get a better screenshot, please post it.

Anyway, even if this is really upscaled from 2K, it's the first time I see an MV above 1080p, so that's pretty cool.
