aw yis, brootlism
mandatory, simon fraser university. brutalism on a mountain top; love it
last one, too many give "image resolution is too small"

>>2747304
Too artsy and complex in terms of architecture to be considered brutalist. Right?
>>2747399

I always resented Brutalism but I have to admit that it's growing on me.
They look so solid and longlasting, like they'd survive a nuclear blast and remain standing for a century or two.
>>2747777
>They look so solid and longlasting, like they'd survive a nuclear blast and remain standing for a century or two.
They were built by people who had just been through a world war. I bet that had something to do with the brutalist adoption in the post-ww2 period.
>>2747300
>magnificent authoritarian structures
If I was dictator I would demand art nouveau, neoclassical, art deco, even 80s postmodern. Anything but this shit.
>>2747715
That's because it was shot there.
>>2747305
wat dis?
>>2747717
Well, as far as I know the term brutalism comes from the French 'béton brut' which means 'bare/raw concrete' so looking at it, it would be considered brutalism.

Puny mortals!!!!
Come in. Freedom is inside.
STASI loves you very much, ja?
There are lots of brutalist buildings here in Spain, specially in Universities and apartment buildings built during the 50s and 60s.
I don't have hi-res pics in my computer, but I'll try to take some.
This is the faculty of Medicine of the University of Oviedo (Asturias, Spain).

i like these, to me they have a sense of futurism, without all the high tech and glassy look.
Still waiting to see the building from my hometown of New Haven, that one looks neat.
Public Safety Building in Winnipeg. In an ironic twist the concrete is falling off of it making the building itself a danger to the public. Hence the covered walkway around the building.

>>2747715
Also Caprica. A ton of movies and tv shows are shot in Vancouver because of the cheap dollar. If you want a backdrop for a grim dystopian future there is really no better place :^)
moar!
did they know at the time how poorly concrete looks when it ages? was concrete seen as shiny new modern tech back then, like all-glass buildings are now? did they WANT buildings to look depressing?
>>2748370
Jawohl.
Heil, Anon!
>>2750632
Judicial buildings often look a little like fortresses, or a lot in this case, the elevators are a nice detail though.

For those interested, that's Habitat 67, built for for the Montreal Universal Exposition in 1967.

The Pyramids were built for hosting the athletes during the 1976 Olympics, another hallmark of Montreal
>>2764533
I don't know if this counts, but I like the underground concrete structures also
Scares faggots away, best style.
Does it have any structural advantages over traditional buildings or is it basically the same but unpainted?
Is there a thing such as a fully steel building? I realize how inefficient and expensive it'd be but just curious, I imagine properly treated steel can last thousands of years and the worst catastrophes, other than fires of course.
>>2752347
this is postmodern drivel, not brutalism

most of these are post-modern
brutalism is straight lines and geometric forms, absence of frivolity, and efficient building materials
not hr but relevant
Where i used to work
it's difficult to know when exactly brutalism grew off from modernism and was then absorbed by post-modernism
generally between the 30's and 80's anything later is pm

The former AT&T Long Lines Building at 33 Thomas Street is a 550-foot (167.5 meter) tall skyscraper in the Borough of Manhattan, New York, United States.
