It looks a bit half-and-half. The background image's resolution is fine, but the image of Maisie was either a little blurry to start with, or the collager increased it's scale. It would have been nice if they had gone the extra mile in looking for an image of Maisie with matching resolution and/or image quality.

This. It's not top tier work by any stretch, but it's also not "bad" by a lot of collaging standards. The artist looks like they'll have a bright future as they continue to improve their technique.

And at the end of the day, it seems as though the quality of the 'shop job simply isn't the most important factor. I ran a poll a year ago to try to get an idea for what people felt was most important in a collage:

Obviously the situation is more complicated than the three choices offered, but I think it still makes a pretty clear case. If you can do GOOD scenarios - even if just at some reasonably modest level of quality - you're going to do fine. And if you improve your technique at the same time, even better!

Heh, I was a little confused at the accusation at first. When they asked for credit, I assumed they meant they were the videoanon who had suggested the clip in the first place, and was just looking for a more explicit shout-out. Otherwise we had just used the same source material to make different animations. They both contain some similar elements (giantess in city, smoke, jets), but they're all pretty generic for the theme and I don't think anyone could reasonably argue that I came close to copying any of them?

To his credit, he withdrew his complaint when I mentioned that I hadn't seen his version previously, and that the source clip had been sent to me by someone here. And big kudos to the guy for actually making his version in the first place. Moar art is a good thing!

Eh, that doesn't bother me very much. I've always had a disclaimer up on my DA page that says I'm happy for people to repost/remix my work.

All of my work is made from material I've "borrowed" from elsewhere, so I don't really feel like it makes sense for me to complain when someone else "borrows" my edit of that same work for the same purposes. In the worst case, they don't do anything of much interest to it ... but in the best case, they improve or add an interesting twist to the image, which is a win-win for everyone. In either case, my original edit still exists, so it's not like they're actually destroying anything I've made.

And to the guy's credit, he did credit me in the image description.

Maybe I'm just too laid back. :P

i did this one a few weeks ago and came back to maybe give it more umph, but then i realized i didnt save the project, i just exported this image. it looks good enough to share.

this is the first one i did with layer masks. i used the paintbrush and hugged the outline of her. i realized if i cut too close it would make her partially transparent. i wanted to go back and fix that, but alas, i didnt save and didnt want to crop her out again.

i also plan to share my crappy crops of the girls on deviantart from now on since it seems to be the most time consuming part of this and if someone else sees it they might be able to put it to better use.
