I'm always open to the fact that I can be wrong. But I believe I'm completely unbiased as to the underlying company and am only interested in the girls, their groups and their songs. As you claim to be too.

I don't often do this no. I find it mostly a waste of time and most other places around here move way too fast to ever debate this sort of thing effectively.

What I do often see though is that there are a very few people around here that appear to think that there are many people who are only here to defend anyone and anything that comes from SM.

It puzzles me a lot. I wonder how they can come to these conclusions without being biased. Without having a serious confirmation bias.

Not the anon you're asking the question to, but the problem I have with SM is that their stuff is way too manufactured. Their idols are too perfect, they end up pretty bland imo.

That being said, they do god-tier shit for their gaypop division, EXO, Shinee, TVXQ, and SuperJunior have been massive successes, and for good reason, they're super good.

Plus, any group that would go through SM factory, would come out totally fucking different. I'm just not interested in SM's take on kpop

Well, even their boy groups are over manufactured , the difference is I don't care about their onscreen persona; and I only care about their music. In that case their music is pretty solid. The girl groups songs are either IGAB-tier shit, or pretty forgettable, that paired with pretty bland on screen personality doesn't make me want to invest any time into them.

Overall, it just comes down to the average girl stuff SM does, I don't think they do that great of a job at it any more. Especially since their new groups don't have to go through the nugu struggle phase of their career, which makes it a lot harder to like them.

Well I'm coming from a thread health perspective. Negativity towards SM seems to bring disproportionate drama. It could just be that SM creates a more passionate type of fan without the inter-group company link, but I still suspect there is some sort of SM family effect. The reaction time and volume to negativity towards RV/f(x) doesn't seem related enough to the frequency of posting about them. This could also be explained by their fans being more lurker than active.

I'm not sure about exact SM shills, but you can't help but wonder how come every single pre-debut group SM finally debut's are insanely popular right off the bat. I think there's a significant group of people who like whatever SM pops out. Now whether that's brand loyalty, or SM just happens to hit the right note of publicity/mediaplay/advertising, etc is hard to tell.

You find it strange that there are always fans that love everything that they do. I find it strange that there are people who hate everything they do.

I would suggest that the latter type just have a confirmation bias issue and believe that they are always talking to one person or the same group of people every time they see someone enjoying material that comes from SM.

it just amazes me how a "brand new" group (RV) was already winning #1 awards on music shows and music awards, while debuting with a "just ok" song, and subsequent releases also had the same kind of treatment

consider they barely had any publicity before debutting, unlike the whole Sixteen/Twice/p101/IOI thing that has been going on for a while here, and I believe even Twice hasn't really reached #1 on music shows yet (maybe i'm wrong but I think they got like ONE award, which is already quite an achievement for some)

consider also that RV is no group like Mamamoo in which all members are good at vocals, in contrast, Wendy is the only one who can truly sing, the rest of the members are low-mid tier on vocals (lmao Irene) so I don't get why they are so popular either

they also don't have a truly hit song, think of Kara-Mister or IU-Good Day or similar, yet they come out with a new song and are already smashing all the charts

I have yet to meet anyone who actually hated Gee- era SNSD. Nor visible disdain for their male groups.

Personally, for me, f(x) and RV are both pretty mediocre. The girls in them are pretty plain jane in terms of looks, and their personalities are nothing to write home about. That coupled with fairly forgettable songs and MV's, I'm just not interested in them. And SNSD has sort of jumped the shark with IGAB, though I really dug Lionheart and Taeyeon's solo stuff.

Well there can be many reasons for the stuff you're suggesting. Underhanded stuff going on behind the scenes and such, sure.

However I also remember saying when they debuted that they didn't even look like rookies, they looked more like seasoned pros. They looked extremely well trained and polished.

But I like seeing rookies that start off a bit rough round the edges too. Like watching them come into their own as they progress and get better and better. I agree that is half the fun.
