Damn, this makes me miss living in Monterey. I remember watching Chestnut-backed chickadees in perfect bliss with my trusty binoculars one day. It was a clear day on a trail next to a quarry in the Forest of Nisene Marks in Soquel that I wandered among the redwoods. Amid the stoic silence, these energetic little bastards couldn't even stand still so I could admire them. The trees were so tall that I couldn't find another species around. There was trail mix all in my backpack after I returned because the seal wasn't tight all the way; I'm so happy I didn't being my camera!
