how do they make skin look like that in highly-retouched photos like this? you cna see all his pores, so they didn't just blur everything or paint over it with a soft brush. or do they do that and then paint the texture back in by hand? is it just fancy makeup and lighting?

here it is in crazy high res so you can see what i mean. pores and grain intact, but everything has that perfect creepy smooth quality

They apply a texture to the skin.

They're getting so good at it now, they can apply it in moving video, e.g. for films etc. (An example of this done badly is every Resident Evil film after the 3rd one for Mila Jovovich.)
