It used to be widespread. Not as bad as USA but still very common. Generally, catholic boys weren't cut. I understand that boys are no longer routinely circumcised at birth.

Anyway, my dad has two brothers 3/3 circumcised for medical reasons not religous tradition.

My dad has three sons. I am the eldest and only one cut. Also for the same reasons. My brother had horrible hygiene issues and it was debated on if he should be cut but he was like 6-10 years old at that point and they fought the infection.

Now that I am old and my friends are popping out babies left and right none of the boys have been cut. This time for political reasons not hygiene or religious. Fucking feminists.

Read a stat that it used to be 50%, but now it's less than 10% of new borns. Public doctors don't routinely do it, and majority will refuse. Private doctors do do it for the right price. My boyfriend is Aussie and circumcised but for phimosis when he was 18, no other reason.
