It works best when there is only 1 thin layer of clothing on top. Otherwise there won't be any detail. Even thicker material won't yield much results. Also black works best.

You can usually tell when it won't be as successful. Ads like this with stars in them will already be edited leaving out much of the original detail. If there are raw pictures with VPLs that would work much better.

this is a tough one to do. The basic idea behind xray is that you can enhance the contrast of the bulge and from that you can sometimes make out the shape of the penis. However, with this photo you really don't have much to work with because speedos are tight, but thick so you can't really see a clear image of the bulge.

There is also some data in the very low frequency range (bordering infrared) that the camera picks up through cotton or other light fabrics, but that we can't see unless the image is heavily adjusted.
