I feel like if I made a good natured attempt at posting an ad to make something, cops are gonna swarm in and arrest me for some arcane local morals law while some distributor slaps me with a lawsuit for copyright laws I never heard of.

you can spend your time hemming and hawwing or you can just do it.

you will realise that it is a lot of work to make it look good: finding the right people, location, lighting and editing it properly, etc. so it will likely take some time to get it right. that all needs to happen before you start worrying about a lawyer. just be sure the talent you use is of legal age and that they have given consent. when i worked in porn they photographed our drivers licenses and kept them on file with the contracts we signed giving them permission to use our likenesses in the film, in still pictures and for internet distribution.

here's the thing: in order to get noticed you have to create something good. you are trying to build the penthouse suite before laying the foundation. you can't get a good lawyer until you can afford to pay for one and you can't afford to pay for one until you are making money, etc.

when a musician starts out he doesn't begin by creating a music publishing house and label. he begins by writing and then recording a song.

you want to own the company and you don't want to share any of the revenues with anyone i hear you saying. well, so does everyone, but the reality is that when you are beginning a career you need to stand on the backs of those who have gone before or you will never reach the summit. you need to walk before you can run.

make a film. if it is good (and that is a big if) you can get people to invest in you because they will believe that they can get a return on their investment. but unless you have something to show them they will never know if you are capable or not. start at the beginning. or just keep complaining about how it seems overwhelming. it is your choice.

I see. Well, its encouraging to hear from someone in the business. Its not that I have to own my own studio. Its just that when business crosses with sex, I don't know what to expect. Like any business, I'd expect to take a loss for a while.

What troubles me a lot is the idea of posting an ad, what sort of litigious or vindictive people it might attract, too say nothing of the models themselves.

How to discuss compensation, health & safety, intellectual properties issues (although I like to think its simpler than all that of course).

How to audition talent without sounding like a creep, how to post an ad without the morality loonies coming after me etc.

These are the things that stick in my head. My city is only 100k people, and with a lot of bored rural cops, I cant help but wonder if some fag getting ahead (no pun intended) would be enough to stir of few of the closet cases in uniforms to start looking for something to tech me on.

I may be slow to respond if I can at all, I am distracted atm with IRL crap.

If Im not back, thanks for the advice, I do appreciate it and will factor into my perception of options. Im just scared to death of legal attacks on some technicality by haters and such, and haters can come from anywhere.
