genetically saying romans are basically the same as greeks
>>1170
>sandniggers
Sir, this is /his/, so you need to be historically correct. Not all people called "sandniggers" came from sandy regions, nor were they all dark skinned. Being clear leads to fruitful discussions.
>>2019
>Not all people called "sandniggers" came from sandy regions
Yes they do, that's the point of niggerism, newfag.
>>962
Well they were Roman until 620
>>962
A WOMAN YOU SAY?
The Tomans had a fetish for Hellenic culture anyways. The eastern empire represented all the best technogical advancements and cultural aspects of nation.

Can't lie about your heritage, Bizzies
>>2425

EASTERN ROMAN TRUE ROMAN UNLIKE GERMANIC TRIBAL USURPERS
>>2624
No, the empire was split into two halves to facilitate administration. The Western Empire fell into chaos, but the Eastern half, which was always the richer, more prosperous part of the empire, went on business as usual for another thousand years.
They may not have been ethnically Romans, from the city of Rome, but their state was the Roman Empire, and their nationality was Roman.
>anything after the fall of the Republic claiming to be Roman
wew
>>3113
This. Nothing of value was created after Caesar.
>>1226
During the 7th century they ruled more of Italy than they did of Greece.
>>3048
It wasn't exactly business as usual, they've had a lot of troubles along the way (Bulgars, muslims, crusaders, pirates, etc). At one point the Empire was actually divided (Empire of Nicaea, Latin Empire, Empire of Trebizond). The great city of Constantinople was depopulated more than once.
>>1341
>Belisarius
He was alfa as fuck, my favorite Roman general.
by far
>>3726
Back in the 7th century Anatolia was considered part of greece.

>>5512
>-ion
>-ioi
Get that shit away from me
>>6621
You must always start with the Greeks, anon
Everyone considered the "byzantines" Romans though. Everyone called them Romans. The Ottomans, the Italians, the EMPIRE was rome. Just because they spoke greek doesn't mean it is less roman. They retained their culture, ideology and mindset. Saying that they aren't roman is a very revisionist way to see it.
>>2468
Not necessarily bait, just a combination of /lit/, /pol/, and /int/.

>>7347
Between the religious riots, the Sassanid and Arab conquests, the Avars and Pechenegs and Slavs, Iconoclasts and civil wars, it was pretty fucking dark.
>>3276
wew
/his/, is it wrong to say that Roman stops being an ethnicity very early on?
>>7347
"'neath the city mighty sleeps Constantine the Eleventh, he of the noble brow and fair rule. With him slumbers his army, and when they awaken they shall drive the Turkish infidel from their beloved city and nation, restoring the glory of the Empire in all forms."
Or so my Greco-American friend's uncle says.
>>7560
They gathered the money and material to build that from provinces conquered by the Republic. The Empire didn't contribute anything significant on their own.
>>7347
>times new roman
>>7591
I would say no, because a lot of the client and allied states located in Italy proper wound up being granted citizen status.
>>7746
The republic was corrupt as fuck. Sure the empire started the decline of Rome, but it was much better than the devestating civil wars ravaging Rome during 1 century BC.
