Well, if we go by the hardened leather theory, then the strips would be really stiff and could make sitting rather uncomfortable. And comfort tends to be just as important as protection in armor design.

As a Greek myself,I have to admit:
-The above clothing you see: "foustanella"-" φουστανέλλα" is very impractical to wear.
-It's impossible to look intimidating wearing that
-The furball on the shoe comes off WAYYY too easily
-You have to wear tight leggings below which makes your balls ache.Especially since wearing that will make you sweat
It looks absolutely ridiculous yes.
