The Bolsheviks didn't really impose anything until around 1920 or so. Initially they were just leading the revolution, a revolution the working people had already decided would be primarily socialist in nature.

Pretty sure the Bolsheviks decided the outlook of the revolution when they overthrew the provisional government. Plus they were a vanguard party, they were going to take charge and decide things regardless of the people's input.

Everything Lenin had wrote about that was basically thrown out the window by 1917. There was no need for a tight-nit group of intellectuals at that time because the common people were already leading the way.

Of course. By the time of Lenin's death they had come to see the party and the red army as the primary means of spreading the revolution. This is a testament to the revolution's failure. It's hardly any coincide the bureaucratization or 'Stalinization' of the USSR began alongside popular enthusiasm for it dying down.

Bolsheviks were literally the majority, and the vanguard acted within as the majority of people wanted them to. The PG was an attempt to pacify the revolutionary movement and institute a reformed constitutional monarchy with the backing of some revolutionary populist elements. But that's not why the people fought and won the Civil War, and that's why the PG was easily overthrown.
