1st Crusade was somewhat helpful, Byzantine armies trailed the Crusaders and took over the coastline of Asia Minor. The Byzantines had already fought off their enemies in Europe all on their own by that point, however. Second and Third Crusades didn't do much and probably distressed the empire more than anything. The Byzantines had a negative opinion on crusades while they were happening, but in the latter days of the empire people were hoping another crusade would save the empire.
